I am a K-State fan, but since they are not playing, I become a KU fan. KU just won the semi-final game and plays for the National Basketball Championship on Monday. It was an exciting game, for us anyway. Youngest son is quite a KU fan and so is hubby. Yesterday we got a lot done around the farm. Hubby moved some fence so the goats will have a little more green stuff. I went behind him and wired it to the posts he had put in. Then he also put some woven wire up over some old barb wire in another area we are going to try to fence in for them this summer. If we can get that done, we will be able to move them back and forth letting the grass grow in one area while they are in the other. This should help the worm problem!! Fencing is so expensive, we just have to do a little at a time. We have one roll of woven wire and will need to purchase one more. It has to be stretched...........panels are so much easier! I always say IF we win the lottery the first thing I would do is hire someone to fence in our entire place. Funny thing is we don't play the lottery........... Lacie had her kittens finally, four little gray babies. She had them in one of the goat birthing pens. Hubby planted quite a few things in the garden this afternoon. Potatoes aren't up yet, but onions, radishes, turnips, and peas are popping up already from the first planting. We are in charge of the kitchen for funeral dinners at our church. Today we had a finger food lunch for a family. So yesterday morning we had to make a grocery store trip for supplies. I made ham salad and chicken salad for sandwiches, a veggie tray, and others brought chips and dip and cookies and brownies. Hubby went in early and set up, he had everything ready except making sandwiches when I got there. Then as soon as we started to serve he came home and I stayed to clean up. That works out well, both of us don't have to be there all day that way. Baby chicks are growing, we have lost a few, but that is not uncommon. They have their wing feathers and are starting to eat like little horses! We have quite a few sold already. The batch we raised last fall were all sold before they were processed. That was nice, we knew the money was coming in immediately to cover that feed bill! Our regular customers will get a lot of this batch, but we will also sell them at Farmers Market. It will be started by the time these are processed. Someone asked what we do with our goats.............well, they are meat goats. Most of the kids will be sold for meat, some will be 4-H projects, last year we kept a few nicer bucklings and they were sold from the farm for commercial herd bucks. We usually keep a few nicer doelings for replacement does. We also sell goat meat at Farmers Market. There was an auction today that had a walk-in cooler. We had the dinner at church, so could not attend. Hubby talked with the seller about it, he had purchased it used and never used it, so could not tell us much. So, not knowing if it would work or not, we left a bid. We did not receive a phone call to come and get it, so sadly we must not of bid enough! That would have been such a blessing. We could sure use it during the summer months. Country Blessings, Marilyn~at Heritage Hill Homestead { Post a Comment } { Last Page } { Page 114 of 203 } { Next Page } |
