Midnight Tea Party
Another uneventful day around here, just straightening up getting ready for company on Saturday.
Until............I went out to check the goats before bed and found a young doe in labor. She was due on Saturday, and we suspected she might go early, but at 5 there were no signs. At 10:30 she was standing up in the middle of all the others "talking" so I got a spot ready for her and moved her. Within a few minutes a little hoof appeared, great timing for me to check at just the right time. It took a little while and I ended up helping pull a little, but she did good. She is a small doe, this was her first kidding and I was worried a little about her, so I am very glad that I was there when I was! It is an 8 pound doeling with a black head. She is very strong and was on her feet withing a very short time. Mama, Ladybug however, seemed mad at the world and is ignoring her new baby so far. She is standing and letting her nurse, just not licking or talking to her at all.
So, I am in waiting for about an hour to check on them again before going to bed. In celebration or whatever, I am having cookies and hot tea............just what I should be eating at midnight!!
