Busy Days

Finally a couple of really nice days here and I am worn out! I remember now what the end of the day in the summer feels like again........but this is what we have been waiting for all winter! Yesterday morning just as the sun was rising so beautifully, I headed out the east door to check on mama goats. Sure enough Nugget was standing outside the barn talking away, some do this right before kidding, she wasn't talking to her belly like they sometimes do, but just talking. I went in the pen and found that Cinnamon was showing a little mucous. So off to move Star and her baby out of the birthing pen, started cleaning that pen out to make room for the two incoming does. I got busy brushing down some cobwebs and sweeping the floor.......I guess spring cleaning the birthing area.........Dh called out you have a baby out here! In less than an hour Nugget had already delivered a single doeling weighing 91/2 lbs. Everything went fine and I got them moved into one of the now ready birthing pens in the barn.
I got Cinnamon moved too and checked on her several times. She seemed so uncomfortable, I felt sorry for her. Finally I left her alone for about an hour and sure enough she had twins, a black headed doeling weighing 71/2 lbs. and a buckling 91/2 lbs, with a light red head. Cinnamon has kidded on her exact due date for the last 3 years, that sure makes it easier for us!
Inbetween baby arrivals we planted potatoes............Yeah!
Today was another great day! No babies, but that is ok, maybe tomorrow? This morning we planted onions, radishes, turnips, and sugar snap peas. So the garden has a good start! There is one section that is dry enough to work now, the rest is still a little too wet. Our garden is not raised beds, but we have it sectioned off into 5 parts with walk ways inbetween. We did this in some parts last year, and really liked it. Then I spent some time in the greenhouse, planted some tomatoes and lavendar. Also did some spring cleaning in there. After lunch I did spring cleanup of trash in the yard on a couple sides of the house. Looks so much better! It amazes me how much 'stuff' collects over the winter, especially with the dogs help! Dh was helping me hold a few goats that needed a CDT shot........and one of them jumped and I ended up stabbing my hand with the needle......ouch! I guess I won't be getting over eating anytime soon?? By the time I got back from cleaning that up, Dh decided we would just use the squeeze cute in the morning to finish up that job. Good idea! It was sitting in the mud, that's why we weren't using it today. So, next job was getting it moved onto some concrete, and Dh made a small holding pen around it, and it is ready to go tomorrow! That had needed to be done for months.....so I guess my litte incident brought us to get another good job done. After finishing up chores, I was tuckered out. Dh fixed supper.......how wonderful that was. He was just as tired as I was. He used to do a lot of the cooking, but in the last few months he hasn't done as much, don't know why really. I am going to relax for a while, do a barn check and head to bed. Country Blessings, Marilyn~at Heritage Hill Homestead { Post a Comment } { Last Page } { Page 130 of 203 } { Next Page } |
