Goat, Dog, Robin
I just went out to check goat girls and found that Star was looking closer to kidding than she was at 6 this evening. So I get a halter and catch her and move her to a kidding pen, she isn't as friendly as most, so to my surprise she just stands there and lets me catch her. I got some fresh straw for her and hopefully she is settled in for the night. I doubt that she kids overnight, but we will see??
This evening at feeding, I find that our "giant pup" has had some fun chewing on the back leg and ear of Spicey. I scolded him the best I could with not being there when it happened. Now when I go out he has done the same thing to another doe, Ruby! BAD dog!! Now I am wondering what to do with him overnight, I think we can move him to the buck pen in the morning. I have also been concerned about one of the does kidding when I didn't expect it and what he would do with a new baby in his pen? Well, Dh came out and we were able to get him coaxed into a cage we have for the pickup to haul animals in. It is completely enclosed so he cannot get out overnight. Rowdy is a good dog.........but, he is a pup, about 10 months old. For a time we saw him chase a goat now and again, but had not seen it or evidence of it for a couple of months. Why he decided to do it twice today I do not know. He is an Antalonian Shepherd and huge!
The good news for today, other than we got the grocery shopping done, is that I saw the first Robin of Spring today! Mom had seen some in town last week and called just to tell me of the sighting.
I guess one other good thought, when shopping this afternoon we got seed potatoes and onion sets..........so, we are ready IF by some chance the garden would dry out enough to plant someday this month!!
