A Nice Day Finally

{ 10:17, Wednesday, February 27, 2008 } { 1 comments } { Link }

It was a lovely day here finally.  I heard birds singing, what a beautiful sound.  It is supposed to be nice for several days now. That is fine with me!

I actually felt normal yesterday and today..........that is great to be able to say.  I felt like doing some things and did some things that needed to be done.  This morning I washed my collection of old jars that sit on a shelf in the kitchen.  That is not a fun job, and I know if I did it more often it wouldn't be so bad........but I don't.  Anyway it is done now.  There used to be a doorway from the kitchen to the pantry, that was partialy closed up years ago and an opening left I guess for light, as there is an outside window in the pantry area.  There are 3 shelves in the window which I use to display some old jars and collectables.  It is near my stove which means grease along with dust and a mess to clean!  In the winter we have a piece of plexiglass that we put in the opening  to keep out some cold air and still let in light.  Last summer I had a wonderful idea to put an air conditioner in that outside window and it would blow some cool air right through the decorative window into the kitchen........it worked pretty well and made a big difference when I baked.  I only used it on baking days.   We had gotten a great deal on 2 small used air conditioners early in the summer and used one there and the other in our bedroom, that also made a huge difference for sleeping.  We only had one window air conditioner in the living room previous years. Here it is winter and I am talking about air conditioners???

We moved 3 mama goats with babies into a pen with 1 mama goat and baby today, those new ones were really mean to the first one.  I felt so sorry for her, as they moved into her pen, I am sure she wondered what happened!   It is easier to feed them all together, but we will see how it goes tomorrow and may have to move some again if they don't get along any better.  Dh finally felt enough better today to finish up a shelter big enough for them all.

Some of the girls are beginning to look very close to kidding, they should start anytime after March 1, so not far off now.  I need to get the kidding pens cleaned out and set for the new arrivals.

Someone ask about washing eggs.  Washing them does take off nature's protective coating, called bloom.  We sell our eggs, so I have to wash them.  What I do is wash them under clear warm water and use a plastic scrubby if they are dirty.  Always use water warmer than the eggs, but not hot. I let them air dry on a towel.  Then sort them into cartons and refrigerate. I usually keep the small ones or really large ones for us to use.  Once they have been washed they need to be refrigerated, until then they are fine at room temperature for quite a while.  Again, the bloom protects them until they are washed.  Hope that helps.

Country Blessings,
