A couple of questions for my friends here?

Good evening,

My first question is for those of you that make homemade laundry soap.  I made it for a couple of years and loved the idea of making my own as well as the price!  After that time period I noticed that our clothes were looking dingy, I just was not happy with the results.  I know they were clean, but didn't look clean.  So, my question is do you see the same results with your clothes?  Is there something I was doing wrong?  I tried using twice as much and didn't see any change.  Finally I went back to buying laundry soap for the past few months.  This was on my mind, so I thought I would ask your opinions?

Second question:  Last fall some gals from our church had a Bible study group started.  We enjoyed it, I really enjoyed meeting and spending some time with other women as I spend most of my time here at home.......just me, Dh, and the critters!  (Of course that is the way I like it!)  Anyway, we stopped at holiday time and have not gotten going again.  Some have mentioned wanting to and I would like that too.  Long way around to the question, I know...........but do you have a study book you would recommend?  We only meet twice a month.  I have seen the book mentioned Life Management for Busy Women by Elizabeth George, that sounds interesting and timely for most all of us these days.  Wondered if anyone can tell me about it?  Or any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks!!

Dh still isn't feeling well, no energy at all.  We may end up calling his Dr. tomorrow and see if they want to see him.  I hate to go to the office with all of these sick people and take a chance on picking up some new germs.

Supper tonight was spaghetti, salad and garlic toast.  I got a loaf of Amish Friendship bread out of the freezer while ago, I think I might just have to sample it before bed.........

We are finally getting a few more eggs now.  Today I got 9, had been about 5 a day for a while.  So I guess spring is on the way, at least the chicken girls think so!  I think it is supposed to be warmer the rest of the week, I am ready.  This morning the wind chill was 9, that doesn't sound like spring does it!!

Country Blessings,

Yes, the light colored clothes will get dingy looking. I have used homemade laundry soap for over six years now. This is how I deal with the dingys.

I use a color safe bleach when I notice them getting dingy. I soak the dingy clothing in the colorsafe bleach for at least four hours. This takes care of the problem and I only need to do it once out of about 10 washings.
For the whites, I use color safe bleach every time, along with the homemade soap. I insist on white whites.

Don't give up on the soap. Try the color safe bleach and I think you will see the results that you want:)

Thanks for visiting my blog. We have had a nasty winter here in Kansas haven't we. Hopefully it warms up soon. I'm ready to start gardening and getting outside more without all the layers on.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Good morning,
I would like to try making some homemade laundry soap-- would you mind sharing your recipe?
I have a question about cleaning eggs-- do you wash your eggs after you collect them - before putting them in refrigerator? I have read that breaks the natural protectant and may allow bacteria in. We are getting an abundance now and would like to sell or give away some but some eggs are pretty dirty when we collect them.
Thanks,
Tina

laundry soap and eggs

I used to make the 'boiled' laundry soap recipe I found online, and then discovered that you can actually just grate a few spoonfuls of fels naptha into a large jar, pickle or other, and fill with HOT water and leave it sitting on the counter until it thickens... works wonderfully!

but right now Im using ALL :( LOL I wasnt sure how the homemade stuff would do in our new septic system, so I havent gone back to using it since we moved to the 'farm'

and we dont wash our eggs when we bring them in, but when we know we're going to sell them or deliver them to someone at church or wherever, then we wash them and package them up.

Blessings!
Jennifer

I use homemade laundry detergent and do probably use twice as much as recommended. I haven't noticed that our clothes are dingy but it could be that I have used it so long I just can't tell.LOL About the book, I don't know that one but I know Elizabeth George's, A Woman After God's Own Heart is a great book. It is great as far as talking about a woman's role and all.
Blessings,
Trixi
