Still winter in Kansas

Wow, is it cold today, I think this is about the coldest day we have had all winter!  This has been quite a winter here, many snow storms!  I wish I had kept track on the calendar of the storms we have had, it would have been interesting.  Every year I think I will do that with rainfall in the summer and usually don't keep that up either.  All winter though, we have had some really nasty weather and then a nice day or two will come along before the next front comes in........so that really helps my spirits out.  I can manage with a day here and there that the water tubs are not all frozen or at least not frozen solid all day long!

Each day is closer to spring!!!  I always think March 1 means we have made it, there will be cold days of course, but we are almost there!

It is time to get things going in the greenhouse.  I thought DH would get things started too early, but here all of a sudden it is time!   We should have cabbage started and don't yet.  And tomatoes are on my mind....   StoneFarm35 was talking about planting by the sign of the moon.  I find this very interesting, and have tried to follow it for years.  I usually wean the animals by it also, and set eggs to hatch.  DH doesn't put much stock in the idea, but he is coming around slowly.  He doesn't have the patience to wait until the right day if he wants to do something he wants to do it right now!!   As cold as it is this week, I am glad we don't have a lot going in the greenhouse however, because we don't have a very good heat source in there.  Each year we do some work on it and it is slowly getting closer to being able to use it year round.  We have a thermometer in it that records the coldest and hotest temps along with the humidity so we can monitor the conditions.  Can any one share how you heat your greenhouse?

We have purchased quite a few seeds and are pretty much ready to go in that area.  Our garden spot needs manure spread and worked in, now that is a job!  We only have a lawn tractor and little garden cart to work with.  I hate to think how many trips that will be?   I intend to have a soil test done this year to see where we are for sure.  I know the manure will be a huge improvement.  My Dad always cleaned the barn every year and spread it on the garden, but he had a tractor and spreader.  The garden spot is raised because of all of the years of adding manure.  But it has probably been 10 years since he last was able to do that job just guessing.

DH is feeling better finally, not 100%, but starting to come back to life!  Thank you Lord!

Well, everyone is fed and taken care of but us, so I best think about supper.   Snuggle up and stay warm this winter evening!

Country Blessings,
