They have started to arrive!

We started out the day with twin goat kids mid morning today and mid afternoon had tripletts! About 10:30 I went to check the stall of Mama's to be and found that Cinnamon had twins, a buckling and a doeling!  We got them moved to a small pen, heat lamp going and all settled in. One was pretty cold and we used the hair dryer to get her motivated.  Mom had invited us to come in to her house for lunch, so we took a break and enjoyed eating with her.  We were only gone about an hour and a half, when we got home Dh checked the close does while I checked the new babies.  I went in the house for a few minutes, then started out to do chores. But, I started at the other side of the barn with watering and such, and by the time I got to the pen where Lilly was she had already had 3 babies!  One had not gotten the sack cleaned off and didn't make it, if we had been right there she probably would have, but you never know for sure.  So Lilly has a doeling and buckling too!  They all seem to be doing fine, the later born ones had to have the hair dryer treatment too.  It was a pretty nice day today considering what the weather has been like, and I am so thankful that these does kidded during the warmest time of day.

Ok, 2 down and 5 to go in the immediate future.  I must share that Dh woke up and did the 3 am check last night and was back in bed before I even woke up.........what a wonderful surprise!

I might share this tip in case some of you who raise goats have not heard this.  We use a home made formula called Magic.  You can use it anytime a goat is not feeling quite right and it really gives them a pick me up. It works great to give newborns 2-3ccs to get them started out. I gave it to all of these today because they were cold and needed a boost.

Mix:  1 part Molasses, 1 part Corn oil, and 2 parts Kayro syrup

It has to be shaken well each time you use it because the oil will separate.

I also offer the does a bucket with about a gallon of very warm water with about 1/4-1/3 cup of molasses stirred in right after they kid.  Boy do they enjoy that!!

Almost time to head back to the barn.........will try to have some pictures tomorrow.

God's blessings on you, yours and the work of your hands.

How exciting that you have babies! We love when we have baby goats, they are the sweetest things! We have one right now we are bottle feeding and she is so sweet! I also wanted to let you know I am sorry that your email to me was returned and that I did add you to my friends list. I look forward to visiting your blog often. What kind of goats do you raise?

We raise Pygmy and Boer goats, how about you? The Boers are the ones that are kidding now.
I just love bottle babies, however I am glad that I don't have any right now.
