I made a ghastly discovery today! All those weeds that I thought were coming from the manure - were not! Unfortunately, the weeds are Yellow Nutsedge. I put down a lot of newspaper the Lasagna Gardening way to prevent the horrid yellow nutsedge to come up in the garden... this has been an on-going issue. Well, low and behold, newspaper with 12 inches or so of gardening material on top does NOT stop Yellow Nutsedge. I looked it up online and according to the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board, this is a class B noxious weed. They go on to say, "Yellow nutsedge is considered one of the world’s worst weeds (Bayer 1987; Holt 1987; Mulligan and Junkins 1976).
