I don't think it's any secret that the part I hate about potluck is coming up with the food. This family does eat on a regular basis, mind you, we just don't eat potluck style food on a regular basis and coming up with an awsome vegan dish that will please non-vegans and non-vegetarians alike is a real chore. We eat simply. We use our crockpot all the time. Baked potatoes, zucchini stir-fry, creamy lentils, brown rice, sweet potato quesadillas, fajitas, steamed vegetables and corn-on-the-cob are some of the things I have learned NOT to take to potluck. I can make a stunning soup in minutes, but of course, that goes over very well at a sizzling hot July picnic! NOT!
There are some things I have observed that go over nicely, but either I wasn't the one who discovered it in the first place, or it was such a popular hit that 6 of us desperate housewives showed up with the same dish the next time., or...it had cheese in it, something I do not buy or serve. Period.
Now you can imagine my joy at unearthing a new, fantastic, incredible, extraordinary recipe for Asian Noodle Salad. Yum! The zesty dressing with fresh ginger, fresh garlic cloves, diced serrano peppers, sesame oil, soy sauce, amongst other things, and marinated together is delectable, to say nothing of the colorful fresh vegetables and LOTS of cilantro goodness! Boy, I'm almost excited about next potluck, aren't you?
Don't ask me for the recipe. I'm not sharing. (Unless, of course, you don't ever intend to go to one of our potlucks. I just might allow you a hint or two.)
Are you serious about not sharing? Just curious , thought maybe you were kidding. I have met some ladies who are funny about sharing recipes, but never understood why anyone would be hesitatant to share a good recipe.
IN any case , I would love the recipe! :)
Curious too, if you don't mind sharing -- what led you to become vegans? And if you don't eat cheese, or other dairy products, how do you get any protein in?
Hi, thanks for taking time to answer my various questions. :) I hope I didn't offend in any way - just curious. The salad looks fabulous and I hear you with finding new recipes to try. You are blessed to have a wonderful group to fellowship with! ( and I am a tad bit jealous seeing your in WA state - that is home for me, born and raised.) Again, apologies if I was irritating or offended in any way.
God bless,
gloria
Oh my! No. There is nothing to get offended by. Angela

Most of the food you cannot take to potluck are what I regularly take! Maybe you need my recipes! I will share if you do. I doubt I will be attending your potlucks anytime soon since I live in Michigan and you live in Washington. I was in Washington two weeks ago and didn't even attend your church! So you know I won't be going to your potlucks!
So please share with me! You can send it via email if you don't want everyone else seeing!
I feel exactly the same about cheese/dairy! It really grinds my granny when my vegan mom - the best cook in the U.S., goes out to buy a gallon of milk and a dozen eggs when my brother comes for a visit from Florida. She knows these things are so bad for him! Why not give him a yummy break from cholesterol while he is here?
I ask her if she would do the same with a pack of cigarettes if she knew he was a smoker?
