Vanessa's Dress... and Other Things

I thought I would get Vanessa's dress done quickly yesterday, but no, the dress is half made. I got a bright idea to dress it up a bit with a lighter fabric for the collar. We decided to head to the harp recital early so that I could go to the fabric store. Joanne's Fabric is like my most unfavorite store in the whole world, but it is all we have in our dear little town. I would trade it for any other fabric store in the world. Usually they don't have what I need, and if they do they don't have enough, or like last night they couldn't sell it to me because their computers were not working! Gone are the days when the merchant cut and sold you whatever you wanted, when you wanted it. We have to run everything through a computer and if the computer doesn't work, oh well! So, even though I found the perfect fabric I had to leave without it. I don't have a car today. We are officially a one car family now. My husband sold his gas guzzling truck and we are sharing one vehicle. Today he had to work.
I'll show you a sneak peek of the dress...It still needs a lot of help.
The fabric store fiasco made us a few minutes late for the recital, unfortunately, but it was a nice recital, just the same. Vanessa played her whole concerto flawlessly with the book closed. The teacher invited Brianna to play her concerto as well. She had one little glitch in the middle. Her piece is Vivaldi's Spring... the music reminds you of birds and gentle rains, storms and lightning, peasants dancing on the hillside. The lightening part needs a wee bit of work... She will make it! I am confident.
Wednesday evening our children's choir provided music for the United Church of Christ's Annual Chili Feed. These kids are amazing! No practice for 2 months and they pulled it off, like they have been practicing all the time. The church took up a collection for our Africa trip!
Our poor Bella is gone. Just such a beautiful horse to have to put to sleep. The emotions are a little raw yet, so no one is talking about it right yet.
I have too many squash. Wheelbarrow load number two is picked and I have decided to plant less next year.

I think Taggle is really going to miss Holly while we are in Africa. The poor kitty is not going to have anyone to keep him warm! Holly is going to stay with friends, but the cats can stay home.

Beautiful girls!!! Lovely dress! Personally, I like the dress plain. I might consider a thin line of pearl beads along the neck line, but otherwise the dress needs no embellishment.
I envy your squash!!! Too bad we don't live closer -- I'd offer to come take some off your hands!!!
Beautiful tomatoes, too! Congratulations on a blessed harvest!!!
Have a great week!!

question about brain bars
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 04:58 - Link
Hi! I'm must wondering where you got the recipe for brain bars. We absolutely love them and I"m wanting to demonstrate them at a health seminar. I looked in Proof Positive and listened the Neil Nedley on the two parenting segments of the Amazing Adventures, but didn't notice them there. Does he have other recipes also? My email address is amyaaustin@gmail.com if you have a moment to respond. Thanks! -- Amy Austin
