Homestead Haven Beginnings

My chickens...

I am so excited...previously I had posted that my DH had finally consented to having a couple chickens!  I took that to mean that I could have 4 (one for each child of course!)

So, my wonderful Secret Sister from "The Family Homestead" is sending me eggs so that we can hatch our very own chicks!  She is giving me all the direction I need because I have never done this before.  She let me know what kind of incubator I need, and I just got it all set up.  I put it in my bedroom because that is the "safest" spot.  DH hasn't noticed it yet...should get interresting!!!!

Anyhow, I am so excited, and I need to start building some sort of coop...any suggestions?

I am pretty sure the landlords would ix-nay the chickens around here.

I have heard that "chicken tractors" are very handy - you can move them all over the place; it's supposed to be very good for your soil. You can google that, I am sure.

Oh, girl! You are getting to do what I want to do! But my hubby won't agree (Yet!) I would be just like you...learning from scratch about it all. I would love it if you'd post about what you do after the chicks hatch and all the steps involved. I'd love to see pictures of your incubator and coop! Congratulations! I know you must be thrilled! Think of those delicious eggs!

I want chickens. If we ever move out of the city limits, I\'ll have to ask my husband but I think that it would be so fun.

That's so exciting!! I have 4 "city chickens" in a chicken tractor. They are about 5 months old now, and we just got our FIRST EGG last night!!

Good luck!! I know your kids will love having chickens around!
