Homestead Haven Beginnings

Menu for this week...

{ 10:22, Monday, July 24, 2006 } { Posted in Menus } { 2 comments } { Link }

I am only doing a menu for one week, because next weekend I will be going to Sanfrancisco for 2 weeks.  I am trying to use up what we already have, so a few of the meals are alterations of what we have reciently eaten, thankfully they are all favorites!

Spagetti/Corn/Green Salad/HM Bread

Salsa Chicken/White Rice/Pickled Tomatoes & Bell Peppers

Meatloaf/Baked Potatoes/Green Salad

Crock Pot Chicken/Carrots & Potatoes/HM Bread

Bacon Wrapped Filets/Fried potatoes/Green Salad

Hamburgers/Corn on the Cob/Pasta Salad

BBQ meatballs/White Rice/Green Salad

Today is kitchen day, so I will be making bread, and the kids and I are making brownies.  Since I have been doing my 2 week grocery shopping, we have cut way back on the snack foods and junk foods, but I have noticed DH wandering around in the kitchen reciently looking for some sweets.  So I thought brownies would be a nice suprise when he gets home!

I am in need of indoor activities to do with small children.  It has been around 110 degrees all week here and it is not wanting to let up.  The air quality is also horrible here, so with 2 children having breating problems, it's not wise to have them outdoors!  I am fast running out of things to keep them busy, and I refuse to allow the TV to be their babysitter!  Any ideas would be wonderful!  Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Blessings, Rossie

Have a great time on your trip! Jonathan enjoys a Rubbermaid box of dried beans that he can play with on the kitchen floor. I put in measuring cups and spoons and he has a great time. When he's done, I sweep the vinyl floor, so the mess is minimal. By the way, is Rossie short for Rossmiller? Blessings to you.........Denise (prairiemom)

Things to do...

Some of the things we have & do at home...
Art materials box - crayons, felt pens, colouring books, scissors, glue sticks, old magazines, cards, glitter, paper etc… don’t forget the drop cloth.
Building an indoor cubby house
Simply throw a old bed sheet or blanket over a couple of chairs & you have a cubby house for the children to play in .
Keep all your old grocery packets, cereal boxes, egg cartons, plastic bottles etc. & set up a grocery store for your children. Make some paper money.
We dance in the lounge room. I put on some groovy Christian music & we all dance around until we are exhausted. (at my children's ages they think they mom can sure dance well..lol!)
Have a plastic box with empty, safe & clean plastic containers. For example - wet wipe containers, lids, spoons, bottles, bowls etc… (I know I'm stating the obvious but don’t add containers that contained chemicals like bleach for example)
A baking session - my children love helping me make dinner or for a special treat we will make cookies.
Playing board games together.
My friend Tracy has just purchased these CD's of acted out stories which her children just love to listen too.
We watch alot of documentaries on wild life & nature & sit there and discuss the program's when they are finished.
I just love lego that keeps mine entertained for ages building & creating.
Anyway hope that helps.
Really enjoyed reading your weekly menu.
my children are aged 6 & 4.
blessings Helen
