House Rules

After years of trying to get my children to treat each other with love, I decided that it was time I stop nagging and set some boundaries!  Thus became,"The House Rules."  When one of them is broken, I bring them to where they are posted, and ask them to show me which rule has been broken.  They know there are 8 specific rules, and they are to be followed to the best of their ability.  Consequences depend on the child and the level of disobedience.

HOUSE RULES

1.  We do not put our hands on one another in anger.

2.  If you don't have anything nice to say do not say anything at all.

3.  Use manners.  Saying please, thankyou, excuse me and so forth when speaking to each other.

4.  Always use a gentle voice.  No yelling at one another.

5.  Respect other's property.  Ask before using someone else's things.

6.  Treat others as you would like to be treated.

7.  Serve others before serving yourself.

8.  Be an example of Jesus.

Anyone whom breaks these house rules will be disciplined.  We are a family and need to treat each other as so, always having a servant's heart, and treating each other with love.

Most of the time, all they need is to be reminded of the "House Rules", and many times they remind us parents of them.  It has sure brought about much peace to our home.

This is a wonderful idea and you have a very good list!
I am going to suggest it to my daughter - she is having some discipline problems with her daughters right now - she has a little screamer.

I cut and pasted your rules, added a fancy font and printed them out and will glue them to a colored paper to make a \"frame\" and on the wall they will go.

This has been something we have been meaning to do around here - thank you!!!
