Country living is hard!

Posted in In Our Home

At least compared to city living & living in a place for almost 10 yrs, it is!

We are finally moved in. Slowly & stressfully getting things remodeled, unpacked & back in order. I've had a few meltdowns so far. I am all for order & cleanliness which this house has neither. I don't think that the previous owners ever cleaned! So we bought the dirt & all! Didn't know that filth cost so much!

It seems to take me twice as long to do the same things I did at my old house. I still have boxes that need unpacked. Wednesday I had a meltdown & got angry which gave me a boost of energy. During that boost of energy I hauled all the unpacked boxes upstairs to my sewing room & shut the door. That's one way to get orderly in a hurry. When I need the things that are still packed then I will slowly bring them back out but trying to do everything at once is just too much.

We had plans on hosting our very first Christmas party for my side of the family on Dec. 19th but I soon realized that I was WAY in over my head with that idea. There was no way this house was going to be up to my standards to host a party this soon. So my sister graciously took on the hosting of the party.

This house is cold. We have a gas fireplace on one end of the house & a woodburning stove on the other end along with propane heat. I have come to the conclusion that a woodburner is a pain. I can start a great fire with newspaper but as soon as I put on the logs it goes out. Guess I will work on perfecting my talent of turning up the thermostat. ~Smile~  The front door is VERY drafty! I hung a quilt over the entrance of the front door to try & keep out some of the cold. The quilt sways with the wind that's coming through the door! Time for a new door!  We have no curtains up as of yet.  The sellers left the curtains up so I took them down & washed them.  I also took down the wooden shelves & rods that were hanging on the windows so that I could repaint them in a new color.  Well I've been so busy & it's been so cold (in the teens during some days!) that I haven't gotten them painted yet.  So we have hillbilly curtains right now....blankets. lol Hey, they keep out the cold!

Today we are going to work on the house all day.  Sand down the girl's walls & get them painted...finally.

I give props to all you women who live in the country. City living is alot easier! ~Smile~

Thanks for visiting!

"Work in Progress" Pictures Of Our New House

Posted in In Our Home

After postponing 3 times we finally had closing on our new house on Tuesday afternoon.  Fortunately for us the sellers were kind enough to let us have a key to the house on Monday night so that we could come in on Tuesday morning & start making changes to better suit our needs. It's so cool to know that the house is actually YOURS to do with however you feel. This is our first REAL house so this is a whole new experience for us.

Monday evening we were able to get measurement on the doors that we will be putting in. All the bedroom doors had slated bi-fold doors on them so we decided to put real doors on for privacy sake.  After that we stopped past Home Depot on the way home to buy paint. The girls got to pick out their own color of paint that they want on their bedroom walls. They will only be able to paint 2 of their walls in their bedrooms since the other 2 walls are wooden timbers. They were excited about that. Ashley (DD#1) picked an off-white tannish color for hers & Katie (DD#2) picked a light blue for hers. I got to pick out the color to paint the rest of the house. I'm not very daring with color so I chose an off white. That's good enough for me.  After looking at all the color palette cards for 45 minutes I was just ready to pick one & go home so I could eat supper & then go to bed.

Tuesday the work began! Our neighbor man, Ron, went up to the new house that morning by himself & started tearing down walls. He worked from about 9:30 til 7 that night. Bless his heart! He worked circles around me & he's 73 yrs old!  I was ready to go home LONG before he was! My church friend came that evening along with 3 of her 4 children to help with dusting & anything else that needed done. She even brought us a pan of meatloaf & a plate of chocolate chip cookies. So thoughtful!

Here are some pics of Tuesday:

This is the first bedroom on the right hand side as you walk upstairs. This will be Ashley's room. We are turning 3 bedrooms into 2 for the girls.

This would be the middle room upstairs. We are taking both walls down & putting one wall up between the beams.

And this is the third bedroom upstairs on the right hand side. This is Katie's bedroom.

Both walls are down. Building a new wall.

The wall is going up!

Drywall pieces. What are we gonna do with all this?

While they were doing all that upstairs, I was downstairs trying to dust everything. There was dust EVERYWHERE! I mean years & years of dust & dirt. FILTHY! The whole house needs a good cleaning. All 2700 sq. ft. of it!

Here are some pics from Wednesday:

Preparing the wall for paint. Gotta love that do-rag!

Still patching up the wall.

Hauling drywall up the stairs.

My turn to help haul the drywall. Boy does that get your heart pounding!

Up goes the new wall.

Yay it's up!

And here is what us girls did while we were waiting for the menfolk to finish up:

Ashley working hard.

Ready to call it a day.

I don't recommend anyone in their 30's trying to get comfortable on 4 wooden stools! It hurts the body!

Tired Ashley.

Tired Katie.

Today is Thanksgiving & we are very thankful for our new house & friends who are willing to help in any way that they can. Our plans for today are to work at the house for a short time, go to grandma's for lunch & then back up to the house to work some more. I will post more "work in progress" pics as I have a chance.

Thanks for visiting &

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

What I've been waiting so unpatiently for!

Posted in In Our Home

--UPDATE--

Well, today came & now it's almost gone. We didn't get to close on our house after all. Our plans of closing on our house today have been postponed til Monday. Grr!!! Seems they were short 1 piece of paperwork. Now we wait, wait, wait....again.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well tomorrow is the day!

We are closing on our very first house tomorrow!

YAY! I'm SO excited! I can hardly wait!

We are packed & ready!

This is the house that I posted pictures of in a previous post. The log cabin.

We are going to do some minor improvements Saturday & then start moving in this coming week. We need to put in a few doors on the bedrooms. Right now they have the bi-fold doors on all the bedroom. That doesn't give very much privacy so we are replacing them with real doors.

We also just celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary. We decided to wait til we were moved & settled into the new house before we did any celebrating for that.

Thanks for visiting!

Going once, going twice.....SOLD!

Posted in In Our Home

Well, our house is now SOLD!

YAY!

The owners of our trailer park bought it & gave us as much time as we need to get out. Which means we won't have to move twice, rent a storage unit, or board our cat anywhere. All we have to do now is just wait for our loan papers to finalize & we get possession the day of closing. We are looking at moving somewhere around Thanksgiving weekend. Not the perfect time but it does give DH a 4 day weekend, so that's good.

Thank you for all the prayers that were lifted up concerning this auction!

This morning I woke up to 2 sick kids. The oldest decided she didn't want to go to school so she went back to bed & I called in for her. Then around 9:30 she decided that she felt good enough to go in so I dropped her off then I headed to the grocery store. My youngest is currently laying on the couch under her blankie sleeping. She says she has a sore throat, congestion, & she's hot. She does have a bit of a fever.  DH had it last week. Guess who's next? OH JOY! ME! I'm the only one left!

I am supposed to go in on Fri. morning to have 2 molars pulled so I made sure that I picked up alot of mushy food while I was shopping today. If I get sick, I'll just have to postpone this appointment. I've had some pain but I have antibiotic that I've been taking & I've also been taking ibuprofen. So far that's been enough. I do have some vicodin on standby just in case. I got a prescription for it a few months ago when I had a molar pulled. I only took one that time so there's a whole bottle left plus 2 refills. I wonder if people really need that much medicine for 1 tooth being pulled. No wonder people get hooked on pain medication! 3 full bottles of vicodin?!?!  for one tooth?!?!?

Let's see...what else is new?

OH! I have discovered a new way of quilting that I absolutely love! They are called rag quilts! They are so quick & easy & they look VERY country which will go well in my new log cabin house! I made up a table runner with some fall colored fabrics & it is so cute! It only took me like 2-3 hours from start to finish. I am currently assembling a comforter for DD#2's bed. It will look so cute in her new room. When that's finished I will start on another one for DD#1. I took a couple of months & went through all my fabric, cutting it into 5", 4", & 3" squares. This is a great way to use all those up! Works well for jean material too. You can never have too many quilts in a log cabin.

Here is a link to some rag quilts:

Some friends from church offered us their old piano once we get settled into our new home. Their daughter has been taking lessons for a few years now & they bought a newer one so they said that we could have it for free & they will even deliver it to us! They said it will fit right in with our rustic house. We went down to their basement while we were visiting to take a look at it. It's nice. It is old so it does have some cosmetic problems but nothing serious. Just some scratches. So yeah, it will fit right in with the whole RUSTIC theme! =)

I guess that's really all we have going on right now.

Thanks for visiting!
