Our trip south....in pictures (& some words too!)

Posted in In Our Home

We headed south on Wed. April 30 @ about 6:15 am.

Our first stop was the Hidden River Cave in Kentucky.

Our tour didn't start for an hour so we spent some time touring the museum part where we learned about the different types of animals & insects that live in the caves.

Here is a picture of us girls.

Miki & the girls

Here is the entrance to the cave.  It has about 100 steps to walk down to get into the cave.  Now remember, you have to walk back up those steps to get out!  UGH!

Our second stop was at Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.

After touring the caves we headed to Huntsville, Alabama where we met up with my DH's best high school friend, Jake.  We toured the U.S. Space & Rocket Center on Thursday.

Here is a picture of the Manly Men!  Mike, my DH, and his best good friend, Jake.

  The Manly Men

Here are my DH & Jake again.  There was this amusement ride there that simulated a rocket but the Manly Men weren't too sure if they wanted to ride on it.  I kind of talked them into getting on.  Dh really didn't want to ride it but Jake did so I "stirred the pot" and asked Jake if he would ride it if DH went with him.  He said sure he would so it was on.  TESTOSTERONE CHALLENGE!

Here they are before getting on.

On Friday we traveled down to Mobile, Alabama to tour the Battleship Memorial Park.

As usual, my crew, waiting to be fed.

This is where the men ate on the ship.

One of the stairways on the ship.  Those men must have been pretty small individuals.  No more than 5'6" and 145lbs tops!  It was a pretty tight fit!

Where is the BLUE water?

Then on over to tour the submarine.

The sub

These are pretty tight fits as well.

Here I am trying to fit through the submarine door.  I'm 5'4"!

As we were leaving there were a bunch of seagulls flying around the parking lot.  Only ONE bird was near our car when I remembered that I had a ziplock back of pretzel sticks in my purse.  One bird turned into this!

 Feeding the seagulls

After touring the Battleship Memorial Park we heading further south to Dauphin Island so that we could see the beach.

WELCOME TO DAUPHIN ISLAND

There was a ferry that you could drive your car up on and it would take you across but I wasn't too sure about that idea.  I'm deathly afraid of water!

We took the bridge instead!

Beach pictures!

Here is a picture of my feet & artwork!  You see, I live my life behind the camera & no one bothers to take pictures of me so I took it upon myself to be remembered in some way!  LOL!

Saturday we went to DH's 20th class reunion.  I won't bother you with class pictures though.

After that we went to a national forest down there.

Here are some random scenic pictures.

Then on Sunday morning we headed for home.  It took us 13 hours to drive from southern Alabama to northeast Indiana.

Saturday, May 10, 2008 - Vacation Trip

Posted by Patsy

Sounds like a great vacation. Seems as if you packed a lot in to your days. What beautiful scenery in the pictures. It's always amazing how the landscape changes as you trip miles from home. Glad you four had the opportunity to get away. But it was also nice to be back home.
