Happenings around here

Posted on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 09:47 in In Our Home

I guess I haven't posted in a little while, huh?  You know how it is around the holidays.  Just keeping up with all the activities & household chores is enough!

Well, we had a really nice Christmas.  We spent some time with all sides of our families.

The girls are very pleased with "Santa" this year.  No, we don't do Santa but they were very happy with what they got...so are we.  We got them a Wii.  It is very fun!  We all like it!  I got a car which you all have read about already.  I also got a toaster oven from my girls & I have one more present coming from my husband.  On Christmas day I got an envelope with a piece of paper in it.  DH drew a clue as to what my present is.  It's a picture of a canon.  I thought & thought about it all day & my conclusion is that I'm getting a Canon camera.  I have been saying that I want a GOOD camera for a while now.  It is supposed to be in this week sometime.  I'll let you know!

I got DH a Trivial Pursuit Totally 80's game.  We played it at one of our family gatherings.  It was fun but hard.  I also got him a case to put his dad's flag in.  His dad died when he was about 4 and the flag that was on his casket has just been moved around with nothing protecting it for 35 years.  I looked up a flag case on the internet & they were $159!  WHEW!  I didn't have that kind of money to spend so I looked for some directions on how to make one.  I printed them off along with directions on how to fold a flag correctly.  I took the directions for the flag case over to my neighbor's to see if he would be able to make me one.  He had it done within a day!  It is very nice.  It's wooden with a glass front.  He only charged me $30.  The girls also made DH a fleece IU blanket.

After eating all kinds of very bad food over the holiday I was so worried about gaining weight.  I have a very hard time with buckeyes!  I LOVE THEM!!!  I really don't want to gain anything back that I have already lost because it is alot of hard work.  I was relieved to find that I didn't gain any weight & that I actually lost another 1/2".  I only worked out 2 days last week.  In total I have lost 10 inches in 6 weeks!  Today I actually ran in place for 10 minutes at 5 minute intervals & wasn't even out of breath!  I think I'm going to start running!  I have never done any running before unless a dog was chasing me!  I take that back, I did run on the treadmill once about 5 months ago for probably 1 whole minute & about died.  So I am making improvements!

Now we are heading into a new year.  You know what that means?  Yep, New Year's Resolutions!  It's that time of year when we evaluate ourselves & decide to change all the bad things about ourselves.  I have a few resolutions.  One thing that I would like to change is our supper time.  I would like to actually eat AT the table & start off with DH praying over our meal instead of everyone getting their plates & heading to a t.v.  We have 2 tables & don't use either one!  How crazy is that?  If we don't make this a habit then our girls will follow in our footsteps when they grow up & have families.

Another thing I would like to change is my weight (of course!)  I would love to hit the 140's!  I haven't seen that number in quite a long time.  Maybe that running will do the trick!  ~Smile~

So what are your New Year's Resolutions?

Happy New Year Miki!

Thought I would check in a few blogs this morning, yours being one. Great job on the inches lost. I lost 30+ lbs last winter, and have been able to keep all of it off, I eat whatever I want, whenever I want, just not LOTS of it! Also watch your knees with running, or hips. A few years back I was doing the treadmill 6 days a week 50 minutes a day and it really did run havoc on my joints. So be careful, especially running, the DR I went to said it would be better not to run just walk fast, which is what I was doing so I stopped it, I was in pain for months because of overdoing it! So be careful.
Blessings to you and your family in 2009. I finally posted on my blog, and hopefully can continue.
Have a great day and don't eat to much :o)

Hi Miki,

I read your Blog on occasion, I really like it. I think I came across it back when you did your week of modest dress.
Congrats on the weight loss, it sure is hard! I need to lose a good 25 lbs. Keep up the good work!

I was wondering if you'd be willing to write about how you came to the headcovering? Unless you already wrote about that and I missed it. I've been researching it and like to hear how other women decide this is God's will for them. Thank you!
Terri
