From Unlikelyhomesteader (Nancy) and Musketman (Randy.) My ABC's of my homestead.A: Americanas. My chickens. Blue and green eggs. Pretty cool. B: Bacon. Gotta have my bacon. Gonna get pigs this year. C: Chimney. The first time I built a fire in my woodstove here, I had a chimney fire. D: Dollars. Figuring out how to do more with less. E: Electricity. Trying to figure out how to disconnect from the grid. Give me a couple years. F: Fungi. Starting the mushroom patches and building a clean room for propagation of mycellium. G: Green. Being part of the solution instead of part of the problem. H: Hankins Hollow. Could stand for Here too. I: I'll get back to you on that. Normally the last you'll here from me on a subject. J: Joy. Watching a dream become real. K: Potassium L: Legumes. Nitrogen fixin' crops. M: Malt. Thinking about growing a half acre of barley. N: Nettles. Lots and lots of nettles. The chickens love em though. O: Oregon. Native born, nowhere I would rather be. Ok, Washington is nice. P: Polly. My puppy. Half Australian Shepherd half Border Collie. Q: Quick bread. Mmmmmm. R: River. Or Ryver. The ones I have lived by (the Nehalem now,) and my son (Ryver, pronounced the same.) S: Salmon. Can't wait for the spring chinook run. T: Tunnels. Need to get a few polytunnels until I get a permanent greenhouse set up. U: Unclear. What goes with "U"? V: Veggies. Lots and lots of veggies. W: Whatchamacallit. The universal term for many things here. X: Marks the spot. Y: Yahoo. The internet makes life a bit more interesting. Z: Zymurgy. The science of bacterial fermentation.
