• Thursday, January 24, 2008 - Honest to goodness, it really works, herbal remedy!
My children have all had terrible colds. The kind with the runny nose faucet. You know, the kind where the nose runs continually and never stops. After a while puff's plus is painful. So I was about to give them some OTC meds when I read about the FDA finding that those meds are not safe for young children. This was bad news for me as we are a family with allergies. We purchase loads of antihistamines and cold medicines each year. I really was at a loss and decided to look up an herbal remedy. I came across faucet-nose stopper.
I read somewhere that the stuff in your spice rack was probably too old and processed. However, that is exactly what I used as I was way too lazy to go outside in the cold and pick sage leaves from my sage plant. The children complained that it had the texture of hay and that it did not taste like stuffing (the only thing I could think of with sage in it, when they asked me what sage tasted like...). However, after hours of not wiping their nose continually, they said it worked and actually asked for more "nasty hay stuff."
Oh and I also treated the cold with Sambucol which is available at the health food store. It is made from elderberries. This product works, but it works better if you start it as soon as the symptoms start, rather than 3 days into the cold.
Here is a photo of the sage plant. (In case you have unidentified herbs in your garden like me.)
Blessings,
