Homemade Bread Tutorial
I Made Bread Today !!!!
I know to some of you experienced bakers this does not seem like a major thing,but to me it is a great thing.lol
I have been trying to sharpen up on my homemaking skills, and with much prayer decided to give bread a try.I am so glad I did.It was actually easy and ohhh so good.I took some pics along the way so maybe someone out there who has not tried making it yet will see how easy it is and not feel overwhelmed by it and just go for it.
I picked a recipe from an old vintage cookbook my soon to be sister in law gave me.I just love vintage cookbooks,dont you?

Perfect white bread
This is an easy to handle 2 loaf recipe
1 package of yeast
1/4 cup water {luke warm }
combine these two ,mix well and set aside
In your mixer add :
2 cups scalded milk {let cool to luke warm }
2 Tablespoons
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 Tablespoon shortening
Mix until blended
Add yeast mixture, and slowly add in 2 cups sifted flour until blended well.

Continue to add in 4 more cups of sifted flour until it is a moderately stiff ball.
Set your mixer on knead for 10 minutes until dough is smooth and satiny.

This is what it looks like finished.Add a splash of olive oil to a bowl and place your dough in it to rise.

Let rise for 1 1/2 hour in a warm spot ,cover with a dish towel. It will rise to double its amount.

Punch down and let rise another hour covered in a warm spot.
Punch down again and form into two balls.Grease your bread pans and form the balls in each pan as so.
Let dough rise yet another 45 minutes in bread pans or until you are able to press finger into dough and it leaves an imprint.I was so excited about getting the loaves in the oven I forgot to take the pic of the dough and how well it rose in the pans.lol
Stick in an oven at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.If your bread starts to get too brown on top before its done inside,then just cover the tops with aluminum foil.After bread is done,brush on butter to make the top soft and tender.
Here is how mine turned out.
Yummy delicious and sliced up thin and perfect.I cant wait to try wheat now.Any good recipes?
Love ya all,
Rachel
