Slip-stitch Crocheted Bag I finished this little bag last night, and I am very happy with the technique and the results. The fabric is quite sturdy and close, so it doesn't need a lining. I don't enjoy sewing. I made a crocheted drawstring; I may look into some braiding techniques for the next one, which will be larger. One of my styling signatures is that I use vintage objects to embellish my creations; this one has vintage beads above the tassels and a vintage pin. I may change the pin; I was envisioning a big flower but this one lends a Celtic look. Not a bad feature, really. Two-Ply Mohair Yarn I started plying the mohair singles I spun from the hand painted mohair roving. There will be two skeins, not enough to sell so I plan to make a larger slip-stitch bag from this that I may felt. Haven't decided on that yet. The yarn turned out interesting: there are long stretches of the reds, and then lots of green. Some of it is barber-pole both colors, of course. I tried to get close to the same amount of each color, but it's not an exact science for me. Block Delivery The block arrived early Monday morning. We're about an hour and a half from the block company so I was astonished to see that big truck pulling in by seven. With that odd little machine it only took him a few minutes to unload, and then he was on his way. Ready for foundation The block guy is coming next week to set the blocks for the foundation. Last time he came next week it took four months. But hopefully the weather will settle down and we can finally get the shop up. It's been nice just working as I felt like it, but I really need to make a better living! An antique and book store on the Parkway, with a corner as a studio for me, should do OK. Snow on quince limbs Last night another snow fell, only about two inches that is melting in the driveway already. Something is falling, though, right now, that feels icy. Although it was cold all weekend, the rabbits were cheerful and active. I was able to get some of them out for play on Friday before the cold. I've been waiting all weekend for a doe to kindle. Although she seemed ready for breeding and cooperated with the buck, she was showing no signs of impending motherhood as of last night. Today it's gray and foggy, so things will be quiet in the bunny house. Despite the snow and cold, I'm planning to clean some more trays and work on the barn; it's time to do some spring cleaning, even if the house isn't included! |
