Knitted Scarf
Stitching along on the Coopworth walnut dyed yarn scarf. I should have hunted up a pair of straight needles, maybe, although the circulars are working OK. They just happened to be handy and my studio is currently packed with stock for the store. Hard to get to some things, including the metal needles I have packed somewhere. I need to get some out, though, and figure out if I like metal better than wood for knitting. I prefer wooden crochet hooks but I'm not sure about the wooden knitting needles. Might be different if they weren't circular.
Finished filling a bobbin of Coopworth last night and almost filled another. Right now I only have two bobbins available for the Reeves; the rest are packed in the aforesaid piles in the studio. One bobbin is half filled with plied silk and Coopworth, but I ran out of Coopworth before I ran out of silk singles. Since the other bobbin had the silk on it, I had to wind the silk off to have an empty one for more Coopworth. I've found that silk is VERY hard to work with out of a center pull ball, unlike most other fibers. So I work from a bobbin when I'm using silk. Since I didn't have an extra bobbin handy, I wound the silk onto one of those skinny antique bobbins. I think it will work better than the spinning wheel bobbin when I get the Coopworth done. Someday, though, I need to invest in a Lazy Kate!

Your knitting is coming along great! Keep up the good work, it looks fantastic.
I prefer wooden needles over metal. The wood seems to "grab" the yarn better and the stitches dont slip off the end quite as easily.
You can make a temp lazy kate by finding a straight knitting needle or wooden dowel that will fit the hole in your bobbin, and sliding it thru holes in either end of a old shoe box or the like. Did I explain that right? Just make sure you put some weight in the bottom of the box or it will walk on you.

It's looking really nice. I bet it is very soft. The more I read about you and your bunnies the more I want to read up more on them to see if this would be something I could do. I would start off very small but it seems like breeding them and learning to spin is calling my name. We'll see if the desire is still as strong as time goes by and i learn more about both. I started another crochet project last nite, mainly just to show myself that I can start from scratch by myself without help from my teacher. And I did it, easier than I thought. So I'm hoping this will be a shawl since I really like the color. And it's coming out so nice that it truly amazes me these are my hands creating this. Wow.
Well off to start my day. I hope things are warming up a bit for you. I know what you mean about getting behind when the weather is too cold to do work outdoors. Drives me nuts at times. I have to not look at it so it's not eating away at me. I find that crocheting is helping get me thru the February winter blues that everyone here goes thru. We just can't wait for spring.
Have a wonderful day.
Blessings,
Sherri

Spinnergal is right .... wood is better - I find that my hands don't sweat when I work in the summer time. And that is a great lazy kate idea ... but when you buy / make one, stain it to match your wheel and it will look great!!!
Nice, nice, nice looking scarf!!
