I don't know where to start! I guess I will start with my first "farm critters." I am attempting to incubate some chicken eggs, then turkey eggs. My incubator was just going to be a $20 used bator, but ended up with the turbo fan, the egg turner, digital thermometer, etc. In just one month, I have learned: price your farm project, then multiply by 5. This is your estimated cost. I should be receiving my eggs by February 25th I think, so hopefully I will get everything regulated by then... I'm having problems with the humidity being to low. Still trying to make adjustments... If the humidity is too low, the peeps stick to the eggshell and die because they can't get out; if it's too high, you get "mushy chicks." I don't exactly know what that is... but I don't want to find out! My next projects will be the brooder (if anything hatches!) and a kid house. For goat kids. I have a plan that uses one sheet (4' X 8') of half inch plywood. It will shaped liked a teepee and have a space at the top for a heat lamp. I bought a Nubian doe kid on an auction, that will be born in May or June, and then have a farm in Manhattan, KS, that I plan to buy my Oberhasli doe kid from. I already have two blue goat halters! LOL... Just to make them seem real. I can still hardly believe that I will have a farm. Will have. Because it will be spring before we get moved out there. But the chickies will help me to be a little more patient. At least I have something "farm" to do! Well, my first entry in my first blog... that was fun!
