"WELCOME TO MY KITCHEN"

1. Do you have magnets on your fridge?
Yes I do! Tons of them!!

2. Do you have a calendar in your kitchen, if so, what's the theme of it?
2 Calendars on the fridge. One with the months meals, one with "where do I have to be". They are free printables from the internet.

3. What is your favorite kitchen gadget or tool?
It would have to be my stand mixer.

4. Are you lucky enough to have a pantry of some kind?
Sort of yes. It's more like a closet with roll out drawers.

5.What is your favorite appliance?
I'm not gonna lie........it's the dishwasher!!

6. Do you have an eat in kitchen (table in it)?
No, I have a dining area...it's weird.

7.Do you have a bread box?
I have one of those garage things in the corner of the cabinets. It's where I keep my fryer and coffee pot.

8. Do you have a picture of your kids on the fridge?
I have a photo of the middle and youngest that is about 10 years old. I have a photo of the oldest that is about 15 years old and a photo of all 3 kids, that is about 9 years old. I also have a photo of my meter, because I think the meter reader is just making numbers up!!

9. Do you ever cook breakfast in your PJs?
Nope

10. Do you have a favorite cookbook that you use?
I have a huge stack of lose recipes. I love the library and check out no less than 10 cook books every time we go. I copy what I like, and return the book. My daughter and I need to make a cook book together......

11. Are you lucky enough to have recipes that were passed down from your mom or grandma?
I do have a few of my dad's favorite recipes.

12. Whats your favorite food?
Depends....I love food.

13. Whats your favorite thing to cook?
Anything new. I love to try new things, with new ingredients.

14. Is your coffee pot electric or stove top?
Mr. Coffee for sure!!

15. Do you ever make your own bread?
Yes.

16. Name one thing that you have hanging on your wall in your kitchen.
A iron heart, that my dh made out of scrap iron. He bent it and welded it into a shape of a heart. Iron was the gift for that particular anniversary (hallmark). If the house burnt down, that is the first thing I would go looking for.

17. Is there a clock in your kitchen?
On the stove and on the microwave.

18. Do you have a bowl of fruit sitting on your table or counter?
Sometimes bowl, sometimes plate.

19. What type of canisters do you have?
Clear plastic

20. Does your kitchen have a theme?
I don't think so.

21. What's for supper tonight?
Pulled pork bbq sandwiches.

22. Do you have enough cabinet space?
13 Cabinets on top. 2 HUGE deep cabinets. 1 tall pantry thing. 16 cabinets below. 3 huge bread drawers. 1 lazy susan. 2 corner cabinets. I have more than enough.

23. Does your family use paper plates?
Only for birthday parties, or when the kids have a ton of friends over.

24. Do you have a good set of china picked up?
I wouldn't know good china if someone dropped it on my head!! What would I do with it anyway??

25. Do you wear an apron to work in your kitchen?
If I had one, I would wear it. I wish my sewing machine wasn't broke, and I knew how to use it!!!

26. Name one thing, if anything, that you would like to change about your kitchen.

At the east end of the kitchen I would rip out all the cabinets and stove. I would replace it with a 6 burner commercial grade gas stove, with two ovens below. I would put in a huge hood to ventilate, with a stainless steel back splash to hold all my goodies.
I loathe my ceramic top electric oven. I should have bought gas when I wanted it!!!! Never second guess. Never let someone talk you out of what you really want when it comes to the kitchen!!!

CARMEL APPLE BUTTER

Posted in THE KITCHEN
When I made this last year I multiplied this recipe by 3.

Equipment:
LARGE pot to cook in
Blender / Food Processor

Recipe:

3 lbs peeled, cored and diced apples
(I used granny smiths)
1/2 cup water OR apple juice
(I used organic apple juice)
2 C sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
21 carmels

Apples and water (or juice) into pot.
Medium High heat, cook till tender
Remove apples with slotted spoon, process till smooth.
THROW AWAY FLUID IN POT.
Return the smooth apple mixture to empty pot.
Add sugar, stir well, mixture needs to "bubble" (come to slow boil)
Reduce heat and simmer.
Stir frequently until mixture is thick and has a spreadable consistency.
Add ginger, cloves and cinnamon.
Mix well
Add carmels
Stir until all carmels are totally melted.
Put mixture into jars leaving 1/2 inch head space.
Water bath for 15 min

wala

This is a very sweet apple butter. Almost like a desert.
The kids at work LOVED it.
This is a bit more labor intensive.
Well worth it.

ALL DAY APPLE BUTTER RECIPE

Posted in THE KITCHEN
Yields 4 pints, but I use 8 half pint jars.

Equipment needed:
Crock pot

Recipe:
5 1/2 pounds of peeled, cored and finely chopped apples
(I used Cortland apples)
2 1/2 Cups of sugar
(I used 1 3/4 Cup of raw honey)
2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt

Put apples in crock pot.
Mix sugar, cinn, cloves, and salt in a bowl.
Pour over apples and mix well.
Cover apples and cook on HIGH for 1 hour.
Turn on low 8-10 hours (depending on how hot your crock gets)
When the mixture has thickened and dark brown, remove the lid and stir like you mean it with a wire whisk, to reach your desired smoothness. Cook uncovered 1 more hour.
Spoon into hot clean canning jars.
Water bath for 15-20 min.

It is very delicious.
I did one batch with sugar and one with honey. The honey batch has a 'smoother' sweetness. Our family prefers it. The sugar batch is equally yummy!!
