WHAT IS LOVE????I am going to reference the meaning of the words Love and the word Agapeo.Because I do not have the gift of tongues, I cannot speak or read Hebrew or Greek. I am blessed with by couple of people who do speak Hebrew, and I reference a Greek to English dictionary often. Otherwise, my Bible is an NIV, and that is where my Scriptures come from. I also use Biblegateway. When you do a 'search' of the word love on Bible Gateway, it gives you 697 results. So 'love' is translated often into the NIV. In the KJV, love is found 442 times. I want to look at a verse. 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. Speak in the tongues / language of men and of angels, but no love, I am just noise. If I only "talk the talk" and do not "walk the walk" I am simply noise. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. So I can be gifted, I can have great wisdom, I can posses great Biblical knowledge and my faith can be second to none....(See Spiritual Gifts in 1 Corinthians 12). So I can "speak like" "posses wisdom and knowledge like", "have faith like" the holiest of holies...........but if I don't love. I am nothing. Nothing. None of those 'good things' matter if I do not love. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing. So once again, I can be the greatest philanthropist known to man, I can be burned at the stake.........but if I don't love......I gain nothing. Nothing. Nada. The first 3 verses tell me that "love" (the real word here is AGAPEO) is of the highest importance. These 3 verses are not based on some 'emotion' or 'notion'. These 3 verses tell me I can put on a pretty good show, but if I do not Love.......it's just that. A show. Now, stop me if I am wrong. The person who is "Super Christian" you know the type: Talks the talk, quotes the Word, first one to AMEN, first one to preach at you, has great wisdom, knowledge (and is more than willing to share it) and amazing faith like NO ONE has ever seen. He / She can be the greatest giver: Giver of time, Giver of money, Give of material things.........heck, they can even be burned at the stake. But if they do not "love", if they do not "AGAPEO", It means nothing. SO WHAT IS LOVE? I need to know this. I need to show this.....WHAT IS LOVE?? 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Footnotes:
