Just give me Jesus

Gathering of Believers in His Name -vs- todays church?

Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)

42  They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
The apostles teaching was their eye witness account of Christ, which has been written down for us, via the Holy Spirit, called the Bible!!

43
Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. I like how the KJV uses the word "fear". Not like "hide in a closet afraid" but like "reverent Holy fear".

44  All the believers were together and had everything in common.I cannot remember a time where I have felt that I was a part of something like this verse describes.

45  Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. This sounds to me like being in business with other Believers, and giving to those who need.......for His sake.

46  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, Every day. Not just one day a week, but every day. It sounds like more went on in the homes ( and more than just 'small groups ministry') than anywhere else. Sounds like the Temple was for worship ONLY and the fellowship and everything else was done in the homes? Like, God's House was a place of Worship and Prayer........only?

47  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

And the LORD added to the number. Not the building and it's building committee. Not the parking lot committee. Not the evangelism committee. Not VBS. Not some cute sunday school program. Not the Starbucks and free doughnuts in the narthex. Not the "laid back casual service at the hour that it's most convenient for you to squeeze some god into your day" Not youth group.......
None of that.
None of it.
But the Lord adds to their number.
I believe He is the same today, as He was yesterday and He will still be the same tomorrow!

What man has done, is not good. What God has done, is wonderful!

(KJV)

42  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

 44  And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45  And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46  And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

thank you - this is so true. it is the SIMPLE message of the gospel that saves. the simple truths of His redemption of us that changes the hearts of men. not programs.
