I am watching this economic situation destroy a human being.
What does God have to say about this???
Matthew 6:19-21
19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
I know this, you know this, but I know people who don't know this, and are not approachable to hear this.........it's horrifying.
A month ago this person was smiling, laughing, enjoying what he does (job wise), enjoying life........good mood most of the time......
Today, and for the last 2-3 weeks.........he is surly. He is overwhelmed with anger. He uses foul language, directed towards us. He is not friendly, he is overwhelmed with anger.....and everyone notices. No one wants to talk to him, no one want to work for him anymore........The life has been sucked out of him.
Why?
The huge hit in the stock market.
The huge hit to the economy.
The huge hit to his business.
And it all has to do with money...........
Don't get me wrong. I lost money too. I have 529's for the kids.
I have IRA's for my dh and I. He has a 401k.............
But you know what?
It's just money. What am I going to do?
My kids know the Lord, I know the Lord....if He comes tomorrow, we will be with him for eternity. That's really all that matters.
Really.
These things must come to pass.
Matthew 23 tells us what NOT to do!
Matthew 24 tells us WHAT to expect!
Matthew 25 tells us WHO is going with Him, and who is not!
Pray for those who are lost in the money.
They are real people, really hurting.

How true!
It's so easy to forget sometimes that it really is just money. Thanks for a great post! It really is troubling to see how people for whom money is everything are really losing it right now. I work in the heart of downtown Boston, serving many financiers and bankers and similar people, and it's amazing to see how their demeanors from a few months ago have completely changed.
I can't say I'm not guilty of worrying, either, but with reminders like this I feel better. ^_^

going off of Sarah's thoughts, it is just money. but to the world, money is EVERYTHING....
it is food (not just sustenance, but expensive Starbucks coffee)
it is shelter (and not just a roof with wind-proof walls, but a fancy house/apartment in the RIGHT part of town)
it is preparing for the future
it is knowledge of one's place in the world, a sense of belonging, as it were
IT IS SECURITY IN AN UNSECURE WORLD
But for those who realize it is only money, then it is just a way of living. The REAL treasures are
food - the Lord has said "I am the bread of Life" - and if we have food to live on in this world, great, if not, well, we are with the Lord
Shelter - The Lord has said He will gather us like a hen with her chicks, and imagine what shelter that is under His arms!
Preparations for the Future - a kingdom without compare!
a knowledge of our place in the UNIVERSE AND IN TIME - we know from whence we came, and where we will go, and what the future holds (at least in the long term!)
THE LORD IS OUR SECURITY IN IN AN UNSECURE WORLD.
***** I see no sin in luxuries. I blow a LOT of money, on my hair, but, I work my butt off to afford that. If came a time where it was dinner or a new color? I'd be grey and the kids would be fed. I enjoy the 'fruits of my labor' here on earth, but it is not *who* I am....Unfortunately too many see their worth in dollar signs. Jesus has so much more for us!! And I do like the White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Latte, Breve`!!! ****************** Laura

So many people are stressed and paniced about the economic situation. It is hard to watch our friends and loved ones hurting so much, dispairing what their next move with be, hopeless of any change.
But God is our provision. He has preparing His children for this by stocking up, cutting back, saving money, etc. Some of us are better prepared than others I am sure. But there is HOPE!!!
God's Blessings,

LOL! I see no sin in luxuries either. I am not asking anyone else to pay for them, and if I really want a pony that has no use, and I have worked my whole life to have a pony, and I can afford one now, I am going to get that pony! (sorry - personal rant, my aunt finally got her pony, and her DIL is complaining that she is wasting money on a "toy")
I was not knocking Starbucks! I just used that example because that is where Sarah works, and I found it interesting that all the people are still coming in to get their expensive coffee while their "world is ending," with their changed demeanors.
And I bet those people can be hard to work for!
******** I had a table the other night, drop a TON of cash on dinner and wine that did nothing but gripe and moan about the economy. They whipped out their credit card, and paid, and tipped 20%.......while moaning and whining about the economy. People are strange. Probably the same ones that believe in global warming and evolution!! HA HA************** Laura
