Lent

10:10, Thursday, February 23 .. 6 comments .. Link

NOTE - I don't want any comments on whether or not it's Biblical to "give something up" for Lent or how we ought to behave the same way all the time. I have made my decision and I want encouragement to stick to it -- not arguments!

In the past, I have usually given up candy or some other  treat for Lent. Nothing major, except when Valentine's Day falls within the Lenten season. Perhaps the fast I am planning isn't even really about Lent, except that it makes a nice timeframe.

This year, I am going to give up something that has become a real issue in my life: unlimited Internet time. Because I don't have little children and I am alone so much,  I have fallen into the habit of spending MOST of my day online. I still cook and clean and do sewing, but most of my time is spent right here.

I do have valid uses for my computer, online and offline. I want to continue to sell things on eBay and I have my website to maintain. I have patterns to write and print. But my "Surf and Chat" time will be limited to 30 minutes a day.

In addition, I plan to spend more time in prayer and Bible study, exercise, work on at least one non-commercial project per day, and also spend time each day preparing to move. I like to have everything clean and sorted before I do any packing. Today, I sorted all my plastic food  storage containers, making sure  that I had sets of containers and lids. Everything else got tossed. I also pulled out and dusted all the photo albums. And I worked on a rug that I am making just for me!

I know that a fast is done in God's strength and not in my own. That's a good  thing, because self-control is not a stong point for me in this type of issue!

I have also been thinking I may be spending too much time on the blogs. Well, good luck with you 30 minutes. That sounds great!!

I will be praying for you. Stay the course, you can make it to the finish line. You are more than a conqueror.

Enjoy your time with the Lord. ;)

I think we all need to do things like this, Lenten or not, just to feel better about ourselves. Best wishes!

Cathe - blessings to you...

Lent

When people ask Daddy if he made any New Year's resolutions he replies, "If I'm living the way I should be living, there's no need for resolutions." The same thing applies to Lent, I think. Perhaps it's not what we should give up...it's what we should do...make a vow to read twelve pages of the Bible each day. If we did that, we'd read the Bible through in about three months!

Your children's clothes are breathtakingly beautiful.

God's blessings on you, yours and the work of your hands.
