Still winter.

It's still winter here! Scraping the ice off the car windows and keeping the draft stoppers under the doors. We removed the plastic from some of the windows while we had the flu in the house, to get some fresh air, and now they need to be sealed again! Because we are likely to be moving, I am not in my usual state of "preparing for summer" this February. In fact, if we are going to move, I would prefer to do it now, while the ground is still frozen. Once the real thaw comes, I will have a much harder time leaving. Usually by now I have trays of seeds starting all over the kitchen (my only sunny room)and have my garden all mapped out. This summer will be different in another way, too. For the past 20 years, we have spent our summer evenings on bleachers, watching our one of more of our sons play baseball. We probably won't do that this year. Matthew wants to play, but he is 17 and we are moving. It's hard to get into a new league at that age, and he really needs to get a job instead. Maybe summer missions, too, and hopefully a summer vacation for all of us. So many changes! I dearly wish we could afford to send Alex to a Christian college. The community college just isn't the kind of environment and academic challenge I would like to see him experience. I am sprouting things in jars this week since I can't garden. I am doing hmong beans, alfalfa seeds and wheat berries. I've been cooking more, too, with the cold weather, and really trying to focus on school. We are making a real push for an excellent score on the ACT! It may be the only way Matthew gets to go to the expensive private college he wants. My ebay auctions are going okay.
