When I get overloaded with responsibilities, I shut down and accomplish nothing. In the past year, I have been more careful to decline commissions that will put me "over the edge." It sounds like I have many opportunities to make money and I just turn them down, but the fact is, I can only do a certain amount. My first "time" priority is school. I have made the commitment to educate my son, and I can't let that one fall through the cracks. The daily business of caring for a husband, running my home with meals and maintenance, and all that goes with that, has to go on smoothly ALL the time. I work school into that, and THEN I can do the extra things - sewing and teaching for money, primarily. There are other things I like to do, but I have not managed to consistently work them into my routine. I have tried FlyLady (e-nagging) and scheduling, but I find that my spirit is too rebellious. I will just have to work on my own accountability and self-discipline. No one else is going to understand my priorities. FlyLady has great ideas, really, but her DH doesn't work night shift. There are always reasons (excuses) why I can't follow someone else's plan for "How to be the perfect wife, homemaker, mother, teacher, and Christian" I am an efficient worker, though. I make my boys crazy with my "Don't make wasted trips" and "Don't go up or down the stairs with empty hands" and "work with both hands" and "Don't waste time waiting" and "Don't just SIT THERE" and "You can watch the movie if you fold laundry while you do it" (That one never works. They MEAN to fold the laundry, but they are not good at multi-tasking.) I am NOT good at relaxing. I can't watch movies without doing work at the same time. I bring knitting to meetings. I can't imagine just laying on a beach. If nothing else, I would have to have a book to read. And yet, I fail to do all there is to do and I am behind on so many projects. It's the overwhelming number of projects that causes me to shut down. If I have six dresses to sew, I clean the kitchen and bathroom, do the laundry, vacuum the stairs... and stay completely away from my sewing area where that pile of fabric lies silently accusing me. No self discipline at all. Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 36 of 39 } { Next Page } |
