Winter Musings

I don't like being cold. I dread winter because it's so long and dark. But every once in a while, we have days like this. The sky is impossibly blue and the snow is dazzling in its whiteness. The sun feels warm through the window, and everything looks so CLEAN!

The snow isn't as fluffy as it was a few days ago. The 8" has settled into a thicker mat of about 4". It's heavy on the trees, making the branches bow under its weight. The edges of the house are fringed with glittering icicles - so bad for the  roof and gutters, but so gorgeous!

The chickens are outraged by snow. They hop out of their coop every morning when we open the hatch and then go right back in. They had been enjoying our warmer weather, but they don't like wet cold feet. They would rather stay in the coop and bicker amongst themselves.  Sounds like many people I know!
