Glory Quilts

I feel like such an earth muffin.

I did a lot of cooking today! The guys are all taking lunches to work now, and I need some wholesome lunch foods. They eat a lot of food. Right now they are all raving over the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I buy natural peanut butter - peanuts and salt - and use homemade jam on 100% whole wheat  bread (Walmart brand). For some reason, they just LOVE these. I guess it's a lot healthier than lunch meats with all the preservatives. They take 2 or 3 of those. They also take cheese, an apple and/or a banana, and some sort of granola bar/crackers thing. I also give them vanilla yogurt with chopped fresh fruit or frozen berries, topped with homemade granola. About the  only thing I can do any cheaper is make the  treat myself. So today I made several batches of muffins - banana oatmeal and zucchini raisin. All very wholesome... I grind grain in my Vitamix. I used the pear jelly that did NOT jel for the sweetener instead of honey. I also made roasted garbanzo beans. They are like beer  nuts or soy nuts. I made a fresh batch  of granola, and I made some chewy granola bars. The granola bars turned out pretty "healthy" tasting. Very seedy. Oh well, the guys will eat them.

My kitchenaid mixer and my breadmaker are both dead, so it's a lot of work to cook now. PLUS it got really hot!

wow - sounds like good eating, and a lot of work for you. but, man, worth it, eh?
when you grind your wheat in your vitamix, how do you get it a consistant texture? I always have to put mine through a fine sieve and even then, it is not flour-fine all the way through. and my other problem is it gets really hot by the 3rd or 4th batch (so's I have enough to make my big batches of whatever I am baking!)

Hello dear Catherine. :) My name is Robin - nice to "meet" you here. :) I just saw your scrappy quilt on the Front Porch and commented there. It makes me want to delve into my fabric stash and make one! I have SO much fabric. For four + years I purchased fabric each time we went out, it seemed like. Then I realized that I lacked sewing skills and don't have anyone to teach me. LOL So, I now have fabric that fills several of hte largest sized Rubbermaid tubs that they sell at Wal-Mart.

I do know how to make handmade soap, though. lol I just posted an entry on that with pictures.

Well, I hope you have a wonderful evening! Warmly, Robin
