Homestead land search!
YEAH! Hubby and I decided that we needed to get serious about finding land and starting the farm. With the kids and now my disabilities we are most likely going to have to build our own home. I am trying to come up with an absolute minimum amount of acres that we could make our dream happen.  So I am appealing to you to throw out some ideas please.

The dream is this a one level fully handicap accessable home. With at least one building for animals and one building for my eBay business.  We have a 7 person family. So I want a garden that we could use to save up our foods. A orchard and nut grove. Also we fell in love with Angora goats and love working with textiles so a small herd.  Chickens and other birds are also on the list.

I am thinking that if we had the dream ten acres we could be comfortable. Here is northern WV we might have to get more just because of the lay of the land.

I have been told to look into federal grants and special loan programs given our disabilities. Has anyone used anything like this?  Lots of questions today thank you for listening!  God bless and peace and joy be with you this holiday season.

Hi! I would say 10 acres is about right. That's what we have. Currently we have 10 goats, 65 chickens, 7 geese, 9 ducks and 5 guineas. Our goats are a mix of dairy and meat. I am expanding our garden this year but I ahve to make several smaller gardens sue to naturaul springs and non-usable land for gardening. We have a 3/4 acre pond and creek when the rain level is high. So even with all that unusable land we still have enough I think. We are just getting into the goats this spring will be our first kidding season and we are still adding pasture. We have to buy hay of course, not enough growing room for that. Let me know if you have any questions, Iwould be glad to help!
