I'm Baptised!

I have been saved for about 10 years now, but water baptism was something that I have always been putting off. Frankly, I am afraid of water. I don't swim. I don't like going to the beach. I hold my breath in the shower. We used to have an in-ground pool where we used to live. In the seven years we lived there the top of my head never got wet. So when our pastor announced a few months ago that he was planning water baptism my reaction was "No way!" I had a whole list of "reasons" why I wasn't going to do it.

Then, about a month ago, I felt convicted that I had to do it. God dealt with every stupid excuse that I could come up with, and in minutes I went from "No way" to "Put me on the list!". That is when I realized that baptism had less to do with water than it did OBEDIENCE! By refusing to do it I was being childish and disobedient.

Baptism is something God expects of every believer. He's not going to give me a free pass just because I am afraid of water. But He doesn't ask anything of us that we can't handle. He is with us every step of the way.

So, today was the big day. He gave me two verses of scripture that made all the difference.

I can do all things through Christ who strenghtheneth me. Phillipians 4:13

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

I focused on these a lot and it really helped. As much as I wanted to be obedient, it wasn't easy to climb into that water. But I did it. I was baptised, and now I begin a new life of serving Him the way I am meant to.

I am very sorry that I didn't take this step a long time ago. I am so thankful that we serve a very PATIENT God! I am also VERY thankful for the grace He has shown me over the years. Even though I was disobedient, He has blessed me with everything I have needed, and some of what I wanted. But He DIDN'T give me what I deserved.

I too Believed and Confessed years ago (april 1999) but didn't get Baptized until December of 07!!!

No one taught me that the moment you Believe, that you then, in obedience, get baptized!!

Praise the Lord, He is Patient!!!

I love how He can strengthen us to do His will, even when it is something of which we are so afraid. And think, not only have you learned something about baptism, but also about Trusting Him.

A month after I got saved, my daugther and I (she was about 14 at the time), went to a baptism down at the creek. About 3-4 people from Church were getting baptised. As a result, God stirred her heart and later that day she gave her heart and life to Jesus. After my husband got saved, we eventually, on Dec 1st, all got baptised along with 2 others, at the same creek. It was wonderful.

It's so great that you took the plunge! Lol It must have been hard to take that fear in hand. I can "hear" how glad you are that you did it though. Doesn't it feel great?!
