Can a Christian Watch TV and Still Be Right with God?

Do you set wicked things before your eyes?

In our age of never-ending entertainment, it seems there is always something to keep our minds occupied. By far the thing that is best at keeping our attention must be the television.

While Momma is busy cleaning house, the children can sit in front of the TV and leave her with little worry about whether they are getting into trouble. Dad can watch his favorite sports teams on Saturday afternoon. Mom can keep up with her "stories" every weekday afternoon. And, after a good supper, the entire family can catch the local and world news. Then they can all sit back and enjoy a good movie on one of the Big Three networks. Or they may even be able to see their favorite stars in their latest theater release, available on video only months after it was at the local cinema.

It all seems so harmless, doesn't it? But is it really? Or is the devil using the television to put things in our minds that we would not normally allow him to put there ? Let's examine four reasons that a Christian should exercise extreme caution with regard to television, including the rental of videos.

1. The immoral lifestyles you see

Most of us would never dare to let someone come into our house and commit fornication in our living room, right before our eyes and the eyes of our children. But when we watch television, and especially movies, we are just as guilty of promoting sin as if we had invited someone into our house to commit it. By way of the boob-tube, we watch people indulge in all manner of sin, including drunkenness, fornication, adultery, murder, and blasphemy. We observe them treat marriage partners as they would an appliance - just swapping them out if they seem faulty. We let our children see other children treat their parents with disregard, then we have the audacity to wonder why they talk back to us. We should take the attitude of David in Psalm 101:3, "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes..." We also hear people cussing and taking the name of our Lord in vain, and we then wonder why those words "slip" from our mouth when we are angry. All these wicked things we see and hear remain in our minds, whether we ever admit it. And these thoughts eventually come out in our hearts. That's why Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life." Because, as Jesus said in Matthew 12:34, "...out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." What gets into your heart came in through your mind. What gets into your mind came in through your eyes or your ears, for the most part. That's what happened to Lot, 2 Peter 2:8 tells us: "For that righteous man...in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their wicked deeds."

2. The ungodly music you hear

Whether you ever consciously think about it or not, the music you hear remains in your mind as much as the other things you see and hear. Whether it's the demonic beat of rock music, the adulterous lyrics of country music, or the hypnotic tune of rap music, in any song in which the musicians, the music, the message, or the motive are not pleasing to God, that song cannot be good for you to hear. Did you ever wonder how you found yourself humming a song you didn't remember hearing? Then it hit you - it was in that movie you saw the other day. Just as much as godly music runs off the devil and brings peace (as it did when David played music before Saul in 1 Samuel 16:23), ungodly music removes peace and brings devils on the scene. And most popular movies have such songs in them.

3. The testimony you bear before others

What would happen if you went on visitation with the church, and a certain sinner you felt impressed to witness to just happened to be the clerk at the video store where you rent movies? Would you be able to talk about how God wants us to live as Titus 2:12 says, "soberly, righteously, godly, in this present world" to that sinner? How could you tell him that God expects saved people to be separated from sin, as 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 teaches, while he knows the content of the movies you watch? If you hand out tracts most everywhere you buy anything, such as the grocery store, the gas station, and the restaurant, do you hand them out in a video store? If you did, the clerk would have every right to call you a hypocrite, because you violated 1 Thessalonians 5:22, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." You are a Christian 7 days a week, no matter where you go or what you do. If you bear a bad representation of Jesus to the world, some sinner may be able to point to you at the white throne judgment and see his blood on your hands. And in this life, you will give "occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme," as Nathan told David in 2 Samuel 12:14.

4. The thoughts that linger

Not only do you have to contend with the immoral thoughts you see on television, but have you ever found yourself wondering about the details of a movie you saw ? "What if this person had done this differently?" Or, "how would things have turned out if that had happened another way?" It may seem silly to you, but think of a movie or show you really liked, and then remember how much time you spent thinking of how the whole story developed. What's so bad about that? Well, in itself, nothing. But, all that time you spend thinking on those things is time that could have been spent meditating on the Word of God (Joshua 1:8, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then shalt thou make thy way prosperous, and then shalt thou have good success."), talking to the Lord in prayer, telling a sinner about the marvelous love of God, or fellowshipping with a brother or sister in the Lord. Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." You can't think on Godly things when your mind is filled with worldly things.

It all comes down to this: what are you using your television for? If you are choosing to watch only wholesome, pure things on it, then it is certainly no more a hindrance or sin to you than owning a radio. But if you, like most people who have one, are not doing that, then it is your Christian duty to rid yourself of it. James 4:17, "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

Good Morning to All!!!

I hope y'all have a glorious and blessed day today!

I am SO thankful to have access to a computer again, but doesn't it just get you, when you write a whole post and "something" happens and it's gone??!! Well that just happened to me, so I will repost again!!!

I am trying to get settled into our place here. Because of "things" happening here, we had to move into a small 2 bedroom trailor, with very little land. It might be an acre, but I doubt it. But there is some land almost directly behind me, not being used or anything done with it. SO maybe I can get in touch with the owner and see if he would rent it to me or something, so I can get a couple of horses, chickens and cows to put on it. And also grow a nice garden and a hay field on it! There is about 60 or so acres, so that would be great. I'll pray about it and I ask that y'all will pray along for me, too! {It sure would help, for ~The Christian Country Store~!!!}

Well have a wonderful day and remember my friends, you are thought about and prayed for today!

In Christ Jesus,

THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!!!!!!

Update on Us, Open Letter and a Thank You...

I know that it has been months since I really wrote on my blog to let you all know what is happening in our lives here.  I was and am so grateful to my many good friends on here who sent clothing for Daniel before he was born and who have prayed for us faithfully. God is faithful !  So much has happened since Daniel was born, some very good , some troubling and not all that great, but still the Lord will continue to provide for our needs here.  Some of you know that Mark and I married in 2001 and that I have older children, Amanda 25, Brittany 21, Wesley 18, Michael 15.  In April due to Brittanys claims my older children all moved back to NH to be near Brittany and help her with getting her son Issac back and I will be bluntly honest here, she had left NY and gone to live with a friends mom, so we were told. She had plans to supposidly go into the service (which I am not a supporter of for ovious reasons, she is a young woman and a mamma too).  Well she called claiming that this lady was stealing her son... far from the truth... She had signed over guardianship of Issac to this couple we learned. Well other lies were told and we learned the truth.  Pray for her ok , she has issues to deal with and needs to learn from her  mistakes.  My grandson is healthy, well cared for and  a delight to all who  know and love him.  I wish I had a recent picture to  post here. Pray for his  young life and  for his future.
Suffice it to say there has been much that I would rather not had to deal with.  The lies, the deciet, the whole sorted story, but as the bible says, you will reap what you sew.  My son's left us to go to NH in rebellion, lacking true obedience and this troubled me but they are learning, least Wesley is from this who thing.  In just  a few short months Amanda has gotten herself a job, an appartment and her girls are in daycare currently while she works to provide them a home. She has found a good church and made friends.
She pays her own way and works hard to do it.  (not to sounds like i am on one side, but this is more then my 21 year old has done since December when she ran from NY state and CPS. )  I was angry with her for months, part of me is still upset over the lies told and the things done to get her own selfish way.  But perhaps the Lord has used it all to protect Issac from any harm.

Publically, I want to thank Christine and Mike for caring for Issac, he is well cared for , fed and clothed and growing up healthy and it is Christine that most likely rocks my grandson to sleep each night and wakes to his cries , when I wasn't allowed to do so myself when Brittany fled NY.  I am grateful for the Lord making sure that Issac is a happy healthy baby.
I am grateful for the thousands of dollars this couple has spent to care for my grandson, for the trials they have endured to make sure he was safe and well.  For the compassion you have shown to my other children, Amanda, Wesley and Michael after they moved there and for your letting them see
Issac, even on days Brittany didnt have visitation.  For your kindness to offer them advantages in many areas, even if they haven't taken them at times.  I know that Amanda and Wesley are grateful for your kindness.
You know you cannot always make kids listen to what you know is right, but
we can all pray and the Lord will move in the lives of children who are not totally obedient to parents.  Some will suffer from what they have done and reap what they sew and the others will take heed to what was said and do right.  I am not sure how else to Thank You enough for all you have done.

As for my ex husband, someday you will see the truth and someday you will stand as all of us before the Lord and all will be known, you will know who has used you and who your true daughter was and is.... You will know that the truth is like you saw it for a short time.  And I am so sorry for all the hurt that Brittany has caused in your heart, but she has only done what you allowed her to do and been the spoiled child you made her to be.  You only listen to me when its to your advantage it seems, but I haven't lied to you when it came to our daughter.  Does that mean I don't love her ? No , I love her, but I know that God will deal with her on his terms and in his way and I pray for her but she has to fall on her face before him first. Self is a  horrible religion.  You and Brittany have issues to deal with that no drink or drug or anything will heal without the Lord. But here in I can only pray for you both.  I think you need to rebuild the bridges you are burning...

Well, not having Michael here with us meant being 1200.00 less in income to the household, but I can sure tell you it meant more peace here and it has meant freedom from being under the thumb of or eye of my ex husband.
You know, I love Michael with all my heart, but he too is rebellious with his mouth and actions to me when here and I wouldn't tolerate this with my little ones learning fast the ways he was exhibiting.  So at 15 , he is on his own at your house, truely on his own due to his selfish pride and rebellion.
Love doesn't mean being threatened or having your stuff broken or putting up with kids threatening to hit you.. laughing at your when you tell them they are wrong for being sinful.

Wes, all can say is " don't kick anything harder then your foot "  Just get rid of what has offended you, well it is true that children shouldn't rebuke parents, often what you say has truth to it and parents can listen and learn from children.  I am just glad I wasn't there to deal with your father, cause I would have probably done to him what he did to me for years and
took retribution for your sister Amandas honor.  Always stand on the side of truth cause the Lord will be there to protect you from those who are doing the evil...

So where are we now.... Poorer but better off.  We still have our home here in Red Creek, have food for now and bills are currently paid up.  I have lost the trailer, am loosing the house in Canastota, but somehow there is peace in all of it.  Mark started a parttime job at McDs and we'll get less or no food stamps if he is able to work the job in the heat, not good with his meds and risk of heatstroke. Prayer appreciated for his health while at work.
I have sold goats to have money for food, bills ect, putting most of it into those things and not into goats or feed.  But the Lord has provided for the goats left here for me to have on the farm and our chickens.  I switched to a lesser cost feed and got some hay in for them to last till hay is cut here this year.  I will be cutting back on things I own to simplify our lives and we have moved the children and us downstairs, so as not to have to heat the upstairs this coming winter as propane was outragious, what was normally 2800 for the winter was 3900.00 so I am still paying 1100.00 over the summer for heat we used in winter, due to the high cost of it.  Gas here is 4.09 per gallon for reg unleaded and Milk is about the same.

Not sure what that says for this country or the billions we spend on war.
Only the Lord knows where it is all going and where it will end....
As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord , not the god of stuff, the god of self or the god of war.  Thousands are starving, dying and in need of a saviour... well we call killing others humane and the right thing to do.
True Freedom is in the Lord, comes from him and only him, not from fighting a war and " winning" .  We have won nothing , when our borders are open to those who would come and do more killing and the standard of life and living goes down , not up... IMHO, this nation will not prosper, we are going the wrong way currently...  Lord help us to see truth in what is happening...

Oh well for what is it is worth , that is my opinion, maybe not well liked one but hey freedom of speech is still that here in the US.

Saddened by alot of things, but Thankful for so much more

Still able to get Hay, for now... certified organic hay

Well I feel blessed that this year we found a couple not too far away, actually closer to Toni's house then my own, but we both got some very nice hay from Bella and Ted. They raise certified organic Herford and Angus Beef cattle and she also raises white tailed deer and has a totally white deer that is not albino at all...so totally awesome.  A fox got her chickens recently, so she has one left and needs to get more sometime.

They are delivering another 40 bales of hay to me tonight, praying it doesn't rain, but boy it looks like it will.

Blessings

Well speaking of new additions to the family, before I forget... Bandit came to live here Sunday May 25th on my 44th bday. He is a black lab puppy, he is 5 months old, fixed and has all his shots, he came with a crate he is trained to and all the needed things for a puppy.  We adopted him from a lady not far away as she was going back to work and had not enough time to devote to the dog with 3 children and working outside the home.
