Garden of your heart

Doing what God sets out for me to do!

Priorities.....doesn't it feel as if there is so much to be done, so many people who need us to do things, not to mention our own "things to do list."  I am sure that Martha was feeling this pressure when she went to Jesus to ask "aren't you concerned that I am having to do all the serving by myself, while Mary just sits here?"  What was Jesus reply "Mary has chosen what was better."  She was sitting at Jesus feet.  It's not that serving was bad, but Martha was hurried, serving, busy, busy, busy and hadn't sat at Jesus feet to listen, to learn, to quiet her heart.  It's not that we are to just sit at Jesus feet all day and do nothing else either.  Isn't it so easy to go to one extreme to the other?

How is the garden of your heart?  Are you eager to sit at Jesus feet each day.  Are you willing to let him direct your steps each day (even in the little things)?  Are YOUR priorities, GOD's priorities?

I am learning that with different seasons in life, the priorities God gives me are different.  Right now in life, my husband, my dad, our home and leading Bible Study at church are my priorities.  My dad is becoming a greater priority and will continue so as his health declines.  That will be for a season.  My husband and home will always be of first priority (and this of course assumes that I have put Christ first each day, spending time with Him, seeking His direction and His wisdom).  What about you?  Does Christ come first?  Does your husband, children, home come before others or work?  What things in life challenge to take the place of these priorities.  I found that even just watching some news in the daytime was challenging my priorities, or watching a movie, etc.  For me, I have decided to not watch TV for the month of August, but have also decided that I am going to rarely watch any tv, movies, etc  It takes away from my priorities.  The computer is another!  I have to be careful.  I am going to use a timer from now on to minimize my computer usage.  Some would say this is extreme, yet if I am not doing what are God's priorities, then I am sinning!  Woa.....those are strong words aren't they?  It says in James 4:17 "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."

I want to encourage you and challenge you to check the garden of your heart and your priorities?  Are they God's priorities? Do you need to make any changes?  Let's not settle with mediocrity.  Let's strive for excellence!  :)
