Drought!

The news keeps talking about different parts of the nation that are in a drought!  Where I live, we are in what is called the "beginning" of a drought.  There are fires all over California.  I just spoke with the people I am dog sitting for, and they were evacuated from their campground due to a fire.  They had to leave the tent trailer.  They are waiting to get back in so they can get it and come home.  Drought!  It dries everything up!  It creates a concern of fires that destroy.  Plants and trees die!  Wildlife may die if they can't find water.  It creates inconveniences when we can only water our lawn on certain days, or we can't wash our cars.  If we are wise, we realize what a precious resource water is.  We become more aware, less wasteful.

What about God's Word?  Are we wise enough to realize what a precious resource it is.  Do we realize that it is not just refreshing to read, but essential to our living and being?  Or, are we in a "drought."  Are we too busy to read it?  Are we waiting until just the perfect moment, setting, etc to make it essential to our life?  When we begin to "dry" up spiritually, are we quick to "wet" our soul?   Do we realize that God's word will achieve the purpose it is sent?  It will never return void?  (Isaiah 55)     Do we realize that if we memorize and mediate on God's Word that it will go so deep within our lives that it will be like a well.   Quenching our thirst!

Since it has been so hot around here this week (anywhere between 105 and 115 degrees for the highs), I have had to water more frequently and deeply.  It's the same with God's Word.  When "heat" begins to rise I am so quick to run to God's Word more frequently, but what about when the "temp" is just right?  Do I use that time to store up a reserve?

How are you doing at spending time with the Lord?  Are you trying to do everything on your own or do you rely on Him each and every day for the mundane things to those highly stressful times in life?  I confess that there are times that I just fall into the mundane things of life and don't always spend time with the Lord and in His word.  Then, suddenly I wonder why I am all dried up?  My goal and desire is to meet with the Lord, know His word and rely on Him completely.  I can do nothing without Him (John 15).

Suggested Book to read:  "The Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets Them Free"  by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.  I must say that I think she is one of my favorite authors.  It's amazing as I read the book, how many lies I have bought in to on and off over my life.  Ways that Satan has deceived me!  That is why it is so important that we know God's Word.  Not just read to check something off our spiritual list, but to be quenched with God's Word.  Where it "waters" so deeply that there is never any chance of a drought.  I know this is my desire!  What about you?

My husband and I are still enjoying his time off together.  We have been quiet busy going back and forth to our friends to care for the dogs and spend time with them (I know we are suckers for a cute doggie look).   It's been fun to use the afternoons to read!  I have been able to have my devotions by the pool in the mornings.  I have struggled some to keep up on things at home, but with my husbands help, it is getting better.  We are working hard to get our home ready for our family to move in when they sell their home.  I have a huge stack of items to sell at a yard sale.   So, those are the happenings at our home!

That book you suggested by Nancy Leigh DeMoss....I like her, a LOT! I just discovered her web site called ROH (Renew our hearts)

and she's got wonderful stuff inside of it....I should get that book you're reading too.

Geri, if you get it I would love to have "discussions" about it. I really like her info. I tried to send you something via e-mail but it came back undeliverable. Not sure why. I will send a radio station to Dave's e-mail that has Nancy speak at 11:00 a.m.

I got the email, I will look for her on the radio.

I will try and get the book next week after Lauren and Sam go back to their dads house. (i'll have more free time then)
This Sat we are celebrating Sam's 4th Bday, his actual b-day is on the 17th, but he won't be with us that day. : (

I am looking so forward to having everyone back home! Daves parents are bringing Heather and Matt on Saturday so we can all celebreat together. I was bummed cuz I wanted to go down there and visit with you guys, but Dave assured me we'll make it there soon. With me not working, our schedules should be more flexible.
Talk soon,
Love,
Ger (ps, I don't use my name too much on the net, just in case my ex or his wife should stumble accross anything I've written, that's why a lot of the time I go by "g".
later gator
