God's Sustaining Power

"Cast all your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.  He will never let the righteous fall."  Psalm 55:22

This has become a household favorite verse over the years.  We have sensed God's sustaining power in our lives over and over again!  This verse has been comforting and provided strength in the unknown of illness, in the loss of family members, in the "fears" of the unknown, etc.   I am reminded of this verse this morning as we pray for our newly appointed Pastor.  He had an excruciating headache yesterday and went through bunches of tests at the ER.  At this point it doesn't seem that they can determine what is causing them.  We pray that his family will sense God's sustaining power.  We pray that God would touch and heal his body. 

How about you?  Do you have worries and concerns that seem so big?   Have you "cast" your cares on the Lord.  Think about fishing.  When you cast you try and throw the line as far as it can go.....the only thing is with fishing we reel the line back in.  Isn't that what so many of us do.  We give it to God, only to pull back the worry and concerns.    You know what I mean?  What does it mean to "sustain" you?  Here is how Websters Dictionary defines it.  "To give support or relief to, to supply with sustenance, nourish, to support the weight of, to carry or withstand  (a weight or pressure), to bear up under."  So many of us know "The Footprints" poem.  This describes exactly what God does when we cast all our cares on the Lord.....he carries us! 

Let me encourage you.....let God have your cares, because He cares for you.  (I Peter 5:7).

Today I will be going with my wonderful husband on a field trip!  Yep......he is a 6th grade Special Ed Teacher and today is the end of the year swimming party.  Today is supposed to be cool.....so I don't know how much swimming is going to take place with the kids.   I do hope they have fun!  It will be interesting riding a school bus again!    Have a great day and don't forget to let God have your concerns because He is faithful to carry you through!

I really liked this post! This is my prayer today!
Things arent going the way I want, but that doesnt mean they arent going well. Does that make sense? I think the fact that God's ways arent my ways is trying to creep it's way into my regular thought patterns. Though it's slow, God is growing and changing me helping me cast my cares on Him by the power of the Holy Spirit-because apart from Him-I can do NOTHING!
