Goal Setting

11:21, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 .. 2 comments .. Link

So often we set goals for our home, for our physical body, for our intellect, but how often do we set goals for our spiritual life.  Now, I am not talking about setting goals to read through the Bible in a year, or to pray everyday (although both of those are wonderful goals), no, I am talking about setting goals to live for Christ.  To not fall into the world's way of thinking.  To resolve to live for him, and yes die for him.....each day!  To die to ourselves!    I confess that so many times I am so busy doing my "things to do list" that I easily can forget to die to myself.....my ideas, my ways, my list to get done, my...my...my.     Me becomes greater than He!   It's a constant battle!   If we have any part of being in the world, which we all do to some extent because we live in the world, we will find that there are things to compete with our love for the Lord.  Even good things:  like a home, family, serving others, etc).   And other things that we often think of:  materialism, wants not needs, broken dreams, dreams not yet fulfilled, etc.

How many of you want to resolve with me to live for God in ALL things even if that means you have to say NO to your wants, desires, dreams, plans, etc??????

I set goals for each year that includes:
Physical
Spiritual
Relationships
Health
Education
Financial

Sometimes I even go through it at the half year mark and redo it. For Spiritual I have things like read the bible in one year, read and pray with hubby more often, devotion, prayer and journaling time daily, etc.

Thanks for the wonderful reminder. I loved this blog.

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo

Thank you for this reminder. I almost called you it touched me so, but I didn't want to wake you up. It's difficult to follow and stay consistant when we want to have things go our way and they don't. And that is especially true in our (my) spiritual life! Actually, I find the more I resolve to give myself to the Lord in surrender, the more I find situation's out of control....

Yes! I want (choose) to lay aside my goals and dreams in exchange for what God desires to do in and through me!

PS I wish you lived closer.
