Garden of your heart

To work part-time or not!

11:07, Tuesday, July 29, 2008 .. 4 comments .. Link

I was offered another part-time position in the mortgage industry yesterday.  This is my third offer (3 different companies) in the past couple months.  All with people I used to work with years ago.

As I struggle through this decision here is my turmoil:

1.  Wanting to please the Lord above all in all that I do.  Is this the Lord providing for us or is it a temptation to get me away from what I have felt called to do?

2.  We are able to make it on my hubby's income!  He is such a great provider!  This would be extra so that we can pay off the house earlier and get our savings built up.  Hmmmm.....that's a great thing!

3.  Ministry - how can I juggle my home, a part-time job, leading Bible Study, hostessing a small group in our home, working the garden, canning, etc., and caring for my dad and hubby as they need.  I know...many women do it, but could I do it well and at the same time maintain a relationship with the Lord as a priority?

4.  Simplicity?   How does this fit into that?  I remember when I worked before.  Here were my struggles:  a.  materialism  b.  viewing my husband as I should (so many women complain about their husbands at work and I picked up the negativity last time).  c.  I won't be able to keep up with all the little things that I do each day that saves us money because the time won't be there.

5.  Helping my husband....I want to help him with easing the burden of getting our debt paid off early on the house.  Would this really help or would we become greedy?  God has been stripping us of any greedy issues we have.

I know I am having to pray for wisdom!  The list of pro's and con's both have some important things on them, so to decide that way is not working.  I need God to give me wisdom and discernment!    The great thing is I know that from the Book of James that it says if we ask for wisdom He will give it!  :)

1. Pray and Fast. Seek His Face. Seek Him deeply in Scripture. What is asked of you, if it is God, will NOT contridict Scripture.

2.Seek out Scriptures about Debt, and how the Lord feels about it. What His Counsel is about it.

3. Again, prayer, fasting, and seeking deeply the Scriptures will give you your answers. God will never contridict Himself.

4. Again, prayer fasting and seeking deeply the Scriptures will give you your answers. God will NEVER contridict His Word.

5. Has your dh asked for your help? If your dh has come to you with a plan and said "Honey if you work X amount of time at X amount of money, this will help me".
If he has not come to you seeking your financial assistance, then prayer, fasting, seeking Scripture, and openly candidly talking to dh learning his wishes and desires is where you need to be!!

Use the FULL Counsel (Old Testament and New) when you seek out Scriptures........2 Chronicles 7:14

hi debbie
it's becky (monettes sister-in-law)
i read about your dilemma. it is one of the hardest decisions to make. how does your husband feel about it? how many hours a week? just wondering.
what was your very 1st thought when you were offeredthe positions?
i work m-w-f
8:30 to 4:00
now that i am an empty nester, it isn't so bad, but i had to let some things go.for instance my hubby(don)
takes care of the garden(it is his de-stresser). and i
cut back on how spic and span my house is. is your dad and hubby willing to help more?
curious little thing aren't i? i can commiserate.
love becky

Sounds like a lot of both pros and cons on this one. Talk to your hubby, and both of you sit down and pray about it. God will give you an answer!

Hi There and Dilema

First of all thanks for the post on my blog - yes we do seem to have a lot in common. Including your dilemma - except mine is in reverse. I'm already working and I really want to quit but I know I can't no because of our debt.

Ultimately, I think you've got to not over think it and follow your heart and what God is telling you. I agree with what someone else said - what was your 1st thought. That usually is what you should do.

However, here is a little logic that may help. Why not sit down with your hubby and look at the financials of you going back to work. What expenses are associated with it (ex. gas, lunch, clothing, anything else). Also what tasks are you doing that you wouldn't have time for any more - are they things that save you money. If so, maybe it doesn't pay financially for you to work.

I hope you find the answer :)
