Garden of your heart

The garden is growing! :)

Yesterday I picked my first two yellow crooked neck squash and one tomato!  WHOOHOOOOO!  I told my husband....we are finally getting something for all the work we have been putting into it!  Now it is more fun!  :)

Isn't that the same way it is in our spiritual life?  Often times it is work!  It is work to put aside all distractions in our minds to sit at the feet of Jesus.  It is work to read the Word daily and spend time in quality prayer time for others, etc.  It is work to overcome our sinful nature......and in reality it is only with the help of the Holy Spirit that we can.  But, it doesn't always come easy!  We don't always "feel" like it!  We don't always "choose" to do the right thing.  We get sidetracked by distractions....like a garden, cleaning house, caring for husband and family, worldly desires, etc.   Oh....it is work!

But then the fruit of pushing through the "weeding" of our sinful desires, "weeding" through our selfishness, "weeding" through the distractions for that moment of connectiveness with Jesus, "weeding" through our own "lack of discipine or desire",  "weeding" through our "feelings".....ahhhh that fruit of peace, joy, contentment, love, etc that just oozes in us....beyond our own natural self....we know it is something more....it is something that only the Lord can give.  We don't always have those feelings....we can't always rely on our feelings...but we can rely on our Lord who promises us the fruit of the spirit as we walk in the spirit. 

Let's not give up in seeking Him today or any day!  Let's continue each day, knowing we cannot handle ANYTHING on our own.  We must abide in Him......then the fruit will be evident!  :)

What a beautiful post...you are sure right about weeding out our sinful nature...but the rewards are so great.
