How many of you ladies loose a portion of your house every winter? It's taken up with all things wood? I have to admit it is a bit messy but I would not change a thing (except having easy access to outside wood storage) Since my husband is sometimes home only a few hours at a time, he makes sure I have plenty of wood! What is even better is we get our wood free. Well you have to figure in the time and equipment needed to cut and split the wood. We have a BIG log splitter and a dear friend brings us pallets of 4x4s cut about 4ft long so "workin up the wood" is easier than if it all had to be done by hand. But... even adding in time ,gas etc. it is still way cheaper than any other way of heating a home. Ya'll stay cozy now and remember...Wood heats twice.
ps How can you tell about how hot the stove is in this pic? A gold star to those who figure it out....

That is so country looking and nice. I would think you measure the heat with the bowl of water on top, not sure, just a guess. LOL.............Kitty

We also heat with wood and we also get ours free but you are right about the splitter and so forth. Well since you have an animal in the back of the stove it is not very hot so i would say that you have either just started it or not started it. hehe
I also have the same boards on the back and bottom of the stove!

We have a wood furnace in the basement. I wish we had room for a fireplace or woodstove in the living room! We get our wood for free. Dh cuts the trees from friend's woods. He has always had to split it with an axe, but my Son-in-law has a splitter we can borrow, now. The kids and I help, too, with the hauling. Great exercise for the winter!

Cool enough so the cat can lie close to the left rear.
