(Sung to the tune of Sounds of Silence) Hello sump pump my old friend I’ve come to work on you again Because the water’s softly seeping Around my ankles it is creeping. And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Of a working sump pump In the basement I work alone Among the damp cobblestones Neath the halo of a single lamp I turn my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of an arching light That split the night I blew a fuse on the sump pump In the flashing light I saw Ten thousand gallons maybe more People givin me their advice People stayin up in the light People telling me I’ll probably need a boat Or build a moat.. Oh for the sounds of the sump pump "People" I said "you do not know How to help me stop the flow" Hear my words that I may teach you. Oh I wish that I might reach you But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed well There was no sound from the sump pump I will try just one more time To fix this problem of mine And the pump flashed out it’s warning As a new idea was forming A sump pump was waiting at the hardware store Out on the floor Just buy a new sump pump Oh the joy that formed in me As I got up from my knees No more fixing this old thing No more mixing water and electricity No mold growing fast upon the basement walls No slippery falls Once more the sounds of a sump pump

I just loved this...you are so talented!
(I wrote different words to the poem, A Visitor from St. Nicholas this past December, too...but yours is way more clever!

Oh my goodness, Patti, that was priceless! :) I can soooo relate. We are still drying out from a foot and a half of water thanks to our faulty pump. Thankfully we were able to fix it and get it running again but in the meantime the flood killed our washing machine and well pump and threw a tizzy into the furnace. I think we'll be checking on the old sump pump more often when the rain starts falling next time!
