But a Government agent with papers to fill........Quite the surprise today..My Wonderful Hunny did the chores this chilly chilly morning before he left so I was in no hurry get out of my jammies.I was enjoying a lazy third cup of coffee when I noticed a lil black sporty car going by(we dont get many cars out here)It went up the street, turned around, went back down the street, turned around and then pulled in my driveway. A warmly dressed man got out and walked up to myBACK door When I opened the door he politely informed me he was with the Dept. of Agriculture and he was here to sign me up for the Premise Identification Program!
At first I was shocked..I never expected them so soon... then I was angry
How dare you come to my BACK door... So the first thing out of my mouth was a fairly stern..."NO!!".. He looked at me with a really confused look and his face and said "No?" Then I realized he was probably hired BY the Ag. Dept. to sign people up kinda like the Post Office does to hand out new phonebooks. (The car was a big clue..no real Ag Dept guy would drive that out here.
)They probably didnt' expect anyone to say no so I'm sure they didn't give him aPlan B if they did. So I thought ...hummmm
..I said once again "No..No N.A.I.S." The poor man looked even more confused."NAIS" I continued "The National Animal Identification System. The premise identification program is the first step..this is strickly a voluntary program isnt' it?" I asked "Ya" he said even more bewildered .I replied softly "Well then ..no"..He looked down at this lil flyer I'm sure he was supposed to give me to explain everything ..looked back at me, looked at the barn and said "ok" and started to leave. I watched him go to his car to make sure he didnt' decide to take a peek in my barn just to see what was in there. Boy feathers would have flown if he had!!! I watched him go across the street to my neighbors. "OH NO" I thought we have never talked with our neighbors about NAIS because we didnt' think the Dept. of Ag. would be driving around looking for willing victims so I didnt' know if they knew about NAIS or not. I saw my neighbor out talking to this guy and I wanted to run over there yelling NOOOOOOO but I decided to take other action before I flew around like some crazy woman in jammies, I called my husband. He was pretty sure our neighbor would not sign anything till he checked it out so he gave him a call and he was right.Hunny and neighbor chatted for a few( and yes the flyer said absolutly nothing)We will give our neighbor the web sites that explain NAIS so he can make an informed decision. What I find interesting is that ,from the road you can only see, maybe, my 4 chickens wandering about and maybe maybe if you look hard you could see my cow. Our neighbor has only 3 steers out behind his barn. So does this guy just drive around looking for a chicken or bunny or one cow to appear???? Our vet has had registration sign up there (the traitors) for awhile so I'm sure the "big" farms have registered. Was this guys job to go find the slackers???? It is one thing to read about something , send emails to congressman etc. It is another to have Big Brother knock on your lil farms(back) door!!
It's real...It's here...be afraid be very afraid!!!!!!!
P.S. I could have probably had alot more fun with this guy if I hadn't been so flabbergasted.

Good job. Poor guy. Had no idea what he had been asked to do. Spread the word! http://NoNAIS.org.
Well, back to why I originally dropped by, your front door, not the back door... On my First Windows In post about our tiny cottage you asked about the 66 windows fitting in the tiny cottage. They are for the entire house. :) I'll only get 12 of them in the tiny cottage. But the house is designed to grow so eventually they'll all get used. Lots and lots of light!

You did the right thing. I wonder how many people sign up with out even realizing what they are doing.
