Today my ds and I went out to find a Christmas tree for the living room. We had already looked at the home depot and wal-mart last week, but for some reason I just kept saying not yet to buying one. Well we DO live on 200acres and I was feeling like maybe we could find one in the woods. Now of course we don't live on a tree farm, it is a chicken farm so all the trees are "wild". Not excatly shaped like the Chriistmas trees in everyone's minds. But I like to step outside the box and do things my own way alot. I am always for the "underdog". If horses are picking one another horse more than others I feel for the one picked on, if one dog is the alpha dog, I tend to like the other one better, if kids are picking on another child I feel for that child. That is just the way I am.....sooooo, same with trees, I just feel for the little, shapeless trees that no-one else would look twice at. I actually love the "Charlie Brown" type of tree. And while my ds and I were out he showed me a "tree" that he had seen earlier in the week when he was cleaning off the dam at the pond. I fell in love with it right away. It was even shaped perfectly, like it was grown just to be a Christmas tree. We dug it up and brought it home, along with two other trees. A small pine tree, looks excatly like the Charlie Brown tree, and a small cedar. We call the first tree the "Christmas Tweed" Wanna know why? Let me show you...
Because it is actually a WEED! LOL It was just a weed growing up beside the pond. It is only like two foot tall. But it looks so much like a Christmas tree we just had to have it. So we dug it up and put it in a pot and brought it in the house. This is before it is decorated of course. Here are the other two trees we got...
A little pine tree(sitting beside the TWEED) And...
The cedar tree for the front porch. These are all take before decorating. Now this is what they looked like after decorating....
Pine tree and Christmas Tweed. Decorated with homemade garland, decorations from family in LA., and holly berries and china berries.
Cedar tree and lasso wreath. I made the wreath one year for my cowboy theme christmas, along with the garland on all the trees. There are also white lights, and holly and china berries on this tree.
One final shot.....the pinetree and Christmas Tweed all decorated, with the pine lite up. I put a quilt top underneath them on the table, and added a few christmas items around them. I just love how they turned out. See.....when you look outside the box you can still find something beautiful!!!! Merry Christmas to all. Nancy |
