• Friday, May 16, 2008 - Darn good chicken fajita's

Posted By Jeanette in recipes

This is how we make chicken fajita's.

I like to boil or grill 3 boneless chicken breasts until almost done (they will finish cooking in the stirfry) because I think cooking them solely during the frying time is too much frying the peppers. Cool and slice into strips.

We make up our seasoning mix (for heaven's sake, make your own as the store bought kind is yucky and expensive, click here for the best mix that I use) and set it aside.

First we chop strips from 1 red bell pepper and 1 yellow bell pepper and 1 purple onion.

Cover the bottom of your heavy frying pan with olive oil and then add a teaspoon of your garlic paste or fresh garlic, minced.

Add the peppers and onions, chicken, and seasoning and cook 5 or 10 minutes until your desired taste is met (some like fajita's almost black)

Pour it into a platter and serve with Jill's salsa and sour cream on fresh flour tortillas and don't write to me and complain that you over ate because you WILL over eat on these every time!

• Friday, May 16, 2008 - Friday's happening

Posted By Amanda

Today has been a very nice day so far.  Very  nice weather.  A nice cool breeze is blowing in my window.  Ive gotten all my morning chores done.  Ive also made laundry detergent.  Im thinking of maybe making granola bars later.  I really need to get out and mow my grass but its rained so much here.  Not sure if its dry enough.

Tomorrow I will be going to my sisters house about an hour and 20 min. away.  My nephew will be a year old.  Later I will go to my mom's for a belated mothers day. We decided to keep it simple so none of us moms will have to do to much and have KFC.  We didnt go last week because my hubby had the few days off and I wanted him to be able to enjoy some time home with the kiddos.

No ball games tonight.  I am glad to have the night off from that.  Seth played last night and seemed to do good with his hand.  I was really nervous about it.  Ive limited his activities today so he want over due.  His next game will be Monday.  He still wont be able to pitch for a while.   But I think he was just thrilled to be able to play again.

Tonight we will have chili cheese burritos.  I will probably put on a roast before going to bed so we can have BBQ sandwhiches when I get back home tomorrow night.

Well, I guess that is all from our home today.

• Friday, May 16, 2008 - and Choice # 3 is...

Posted By R&Rsmom in this & that
Well, this week we had some changing to do.  The place that is going to do our siding called and told us the color choice we had for our trim work didn't come in trim.  It was only a siding color.  So we told them what our second choice was and they told us of a house just on out-skirts of town with those colors if we wanted to drive by and look and see before the final decision was made.  So we made our trek out to the house and we liked the colors, but we wanted them switched we wanted their siding color as trim and their trim color as our siding.  Beep wrong!  Again that color doesn't come in trim only siding.  Argh!!  So back to the discussion we go.  So we have pow-wow do we have a third choice.  So we were cleared Tues. afternoon with Choice # 3.  Shouldn't be too bad.  If that one was a no go hubby was considering going with another company to see what they had.  We had three bids.  We went with the higher one because they did the roof work too where the other two weren't doing the roof work and we would of had to have someone else do the  roof .  So  what was choice # 3?  Glad you asked because I'm going to tell you even if you hadn't.
Tennessee smokey Gray (siding) with Kentucky Blue (trim).
Oh, yes.  that meant having to change shingle color too.  We will have Muted Black shingles instead of brown.  Anyway, they were suppose to be ordering our stuff this week so maybe we'll be close to getting the work done.  Month or so maybe.  Yeah!!!  They haven't given us a for sure date yet said probably only get a few days notice anyway.  Well, I must be on my way.

• Friday, May 16, 2008 - I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm finally thin.....

Posted By Jeanette in Just shtuff

okay, I'm not, but this mirror kinda made me look l-o-n-g and thin. Here are some pictures taken on a recent field trip to the children’s museum.

Here are the girls hanging off one of the old cars (Big Miss, friend, and Little Miss)

I am in the hospital having a baby (Doctor Little Miss was wonderful!)

I love a puppet show!

Puppet show from the back....It WAS the girls!

The dentist said, "This won't hurt a bit".....AHHHH

Here Little Miss is inside a huge bubble (too cool!)

So many things to try....

Hurry, hurry, call the firetruck

Racing the skeleton

The kids loved trying out the special needs

Digging for dinosaur bones

Making a video

How's that wind there Sarah?

The castle maze

The train ride (did I mention it was REALLY windy?)

Never doubt that a 17 year old cannot have fun in a children’s museum!

Another long night. DS slept fine is his big boy bed. YES! The power went out last night so that kept me up for a little while. I just feel so tired. It has just been a very long week. I plan on staying at home today and doing a few things. Quick clean the house, find a place for my strawberry jam and wash some clothes. Anything else will be extra!

My family is looking for a new church. Please pray for us on this issue. I have been in prayer over the whole situation and the Lord is leading me. Hope everyone has a wonderful day. God Bless. I

• Friday, May 16, 2008 - Cleaning, large houses and what nots.

Posted By Debbie

What a great day I had yesterday. The sun was out and I got more of my garden planted along with some clean up around the yard. I was hoping to have my chicks this year, but the storage shed has taken a back seat to things lately. The other night Hubby and I were discussing the next couple of years and what we wanted to do. In July, our little town has an annual garage sell and is very popular. All of the little towns around us do the same thing, just at different times. It's great because you know when each is held and make you list of needed things.

Well this year we are going to do it one more time. I finally got Hubby convinced that we need to clear out the stuff that we just don't really need. I feel that this might be the last year that people would really be willing to pay for an item that they just have to have. I think that with harder times coming, people are going to hang on tighter to the wallets and that your dollar is not going to stretch to much farther. Plus as we are getting older, we either don't have the time to get all of the holiday stuff up, and as my daughters family grows, we will be spending more time at her home. So in the next couple of weeks, we are going to go through both of the sheds, plus the house and get ready again for a sell. It's funny, but the older I get the less I want around me. I don't want the clutter and storage of things. We are even going to scale back and put in a couple pieces of furniture too! Things that have been given to us and have sat idle for some time.

I am wondering, how many of you in large homes now, remember starting out in a one bedroom place and thought you had the world by the tail? Remember how big it felt to have a place of your own! Could you go back now, with what you have and live that way again? I bet not. Why have we, as a society, believe that bigger is better. There are somedays, that I wish to go back and live in that two bedroom apartment, just for the comfort that it gave me. Yes I wanted bigger in things, but bigger when it can to the land, not the house. I think this is one thing that alot of people need to revisit in their lives and see if change is needed. I can't believe that back in the 50's and 60's, America was raising a family of four in an 900 square foot home, and look at us now!

Well I best get going. I am heading towards town today to have lunch with Hubby at work and pick up some last minute things for tomorrow. Then it's back to getting the last minute things baked and packed.

Have a great day and will talk to you later.

• Friday, May 16, 2008 - Daily Devotional - Just Give Me the Truth

Posted By Flossie in Devotions

by Lysa TerKeurst

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

I Peter 3:15 (NIV)

Devotion:

Do you know anyone who is trying out the latest New Age teachings entitled “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle?  Beware.  This teaching stands in stark contrast to the truths of the Bible.  As Christians it is vitally important for us to be grounded in truth so we don't inadvertently get swept up in the lies, and so that we can talk intelligently to those who are trying this stuff out.

The most dangerous theme I've discovered in this book so far is this notion that you don't have to weigh your current religious beliefs against this new age awakening. Let’s look at what it teaches.

The Lie:  Tolle teaches you can keep all your current religious beliefs but this will help you put them into proper perspective. Those elementary ideas are a step toward spiritual progress. But if you want real success in your spirituality's effectiveness, you have to make a leap into "true enlightenment.”

In true enlightenment you will discover that "the light of consciousness is all that is necessary" for a more fulfilling existence.  Therefore, if Buddha works for you - great. If Hinduism works for you - great. If Jesus works for you - great. Tolle believes all these different avenues simply lead you to that first step toward awakening your consciousness.

According to Tolle, Jesus is basic. He was the light of your basic beliefs. But ultimately you, yourself, are the way... the truth and the life. No one comes to spiritual awakening but by reaching inside themselves and leaping to a higher consciousness of being.

The Truth:  In John 14:6 Jesus gives us the truth which clearly refutes the notion that one can get to God through many avenues, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The Lie: Throughout the book, Tolle walks right beside Christian beliefs and uses just enough Christian lingo to make his writing appear, especially to the ungrounded Christian, truthful. For example, look at how he talks about sin:

"Sin means to miss the mark, as an archer who misses the target"... Y
es! yes! I've heard this preached about at my church
, a person might excitedly think. But wait, look at how he finishes this sentence:

"Sin means to miss the mark, as an archer who misses the target, so to sin means to miss the point of human existence."

In other words, this book has been promoted as the guide by which you can find your purpose, therefore not missing the point of your existence. So, if you ascribe to this teaching and find the point of your existence, then you will not be a sinner.

Dictionary.com has not caught up to this new definition of sin. It still defines sin this way:

1. transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam.
2. any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.

The Truth: A person who doesn’t consider themselves a sinner, is in no need of a Savior.  Do you see the slippery slope here?

Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

The truth is sin is that which separates us from God. But God has made a way for us to be forgiven of our sin through Jesus Christ... the one and only WAY.

Tolle's book is so popular right now because people want to find their way - they want to live a life that matters. They want to feel like they have a handle on their spirituality.  The problem is “A New Earth” is false teaching that will not stand the test of time. It will fall apart at the seams when life strains against it, and quite honestly, Tolle paves a quick road to eternal separation from God.

Dear Lord, open my eyes to your truth. You say if we ask for wisdom then you will give it to us.  Lord, I ask for Your wisdom and discernment to know the truth, so that I can stand firmly upon it.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
