One of my many missions for the weekend (alolng with the normal junk of doing the dishes and straightening up the house, and getting caught up on the laundry), is taking a complete inventory of the pantry and both freezers. I plan on taking a BIG trip to the grocery store this weekend to "stock up" on alot of things. We happen to have a little extra money (tax refund) now and have talked and prayed about this and have decided to stock up on what we need for the summer months at least.
We have a whole hog in the freezer, and lots of frozen veggies, and canned items, but I will need to stock up on hamburger and chicken when it is on sale as well as items to bake bread with and paper goods (toliet paper and diapers mostly). We are stocked up on rice, and pasta too! YUM!
Any of you out there stocking up on pantry goods???
And if so, could any of you give me any hints of the trade on what I should get???
I have never done this before, but with gas prices on the rise as well as food prices, it seems logical to spend the money since we have it, on food items, so we don't have to worry about them this summer.

Sunday, June 1, 2008 - just my two cents ;)
I have been blessed with a bunch of the old type of canning jars, the ones with the seperate rubber ring. They are no good for preserving anylonger so I use them to store our dried goods.
Dried beans are a great thing to stock up on as is brown rice and popping corn.
Have fun stocking up, I know I feel satisfied when our cupboards are full.
