• Monday, April 7, 2008 - INSOMNIA SOLUTION: DRUGS!!

I just don't know what else to do ladies.  I have tried the hot cup of tea or cocoa (I am not a coffee drinker) at bedtime, but that doesn't help.  I have taken warm/hot showers or baths and they do nothing for me (ok, my muscles are more relaxed, but it didn't relax me enough to go to sleep)   I have tried going to bed early and I just lay there and toss and turn for hours (sometimes till 3am in the morning).  All natural muscle relaxants release muscle tension but don't make me sleep.

So I have been taking Tylenol PM lately to sleep better (doc told me she could write me a script for a sleeping pill, but it would be expensive and our insurance won't pay for them, so she suggested the Tylenol PM), but taking 2 does nothing for me.  Taking 3 helps make me sleepy, but some nights I am still tossing and turning at 1, 2, and 3am even though I try to be in bed by 10pm.

I have a prescription for an anxiety pill (it came in handy when my parents died and I was having major panic attacks), and doc told me I could take several if needed to help me go to sleep.  So I took 40mg and 3 Tylenol PM tonight as well as 3 (normal dosage) os the muscle relxants because I am a little sore today after seeing the chiropractor and getting my ribs put back in place.

It is 10:45 now (I took the meds a little after 9), and I am finally getting a little sleepy.  I am going to go lay down and see if I can in deed fall asleep finally.

Do any of you have any ideas for me other than the drugs to knock me out to get to sleep???  I am desperate for some help!  Thanks in advance!

I also have a very hard time sleeping. My family Dr. told me to try Valerian Root. I use the one from Gaia Herbs. They work good on me most of the time. I hope this helps you some by my telling you what I use. God Bless. mj

There is probably an over the counter something or other that you can try. I have those nights when I can't sleep and believe it or not, it's a hormone thing. When Im ovulating, I can't sleep. Call your OB and ask him about it. A phone call doesn't cost anything, LOL I make lots of them to my dr. He always helps me out. I recently called for something to help my mom sleep, and it worked, but it did make her constipated. OK WELL I think Im rambling now.
I hope it works out for you, I know when I don't sleep I a wack job, and no body needs that LOL.........Kitty

I've had this problem of insomnia for years and years. I would lay there night after night tossing and turning or getting up and watching tv till sunrise until I thought I was going crazy. After going through this for a long time I'd gotten to where I would start watching the clock and get more and more anxious as bedtime arrived because I knew it would be another agonizing night. My only wish now is that I hadn't waited soooo long to talk to my dr. about it. I don't know what I was embarrassed about! I now take medicine to help me sleep and it is so wonderful to just be able to go to bed and fall asleep.

This may sound corny, but have you tried warm milk? The caffeine in tea, cocoa, and coffee will keep you up (unless you're backwards like me LOL). Especially if you add any sugar. Anyway, microwave a cup of milk about 40 seconds. This helps me and my kids. Or try melatonin. Also, lowering the lights and turning off the tv a half hour or so before bed will cue your body to slow down for sleep.
