To Catholic Mama on sinning by wearing pants

My my.....some people just do not listen do they????

Another blog on the subject has been made by the Catholic Mama and I am going to post a little of what she said so I can respond here on my blog.  The words in red are hers.

I would also like to add that it is from reading other blogs that I have come to the realisation that it is a sin to wear pants.  I think it is important to let people know that it is a sin and that it offends our Lord.  I want to thank these women and men for bringing this to my attention.  Thank you Lord, for working through these brethren.  I know that You do not promise happiness in this world, but in the next.

I would like to end all this by saying, you pray for me and my sins and I will pray for you and yours.

I don't know of the lady who you quoted on your page and I honestly could care less what she says about me wearing jeans because it is not her or your opinion I live for.  Until God tells me not to wear pants, I will happily be wearing my blue jeans. Are you not sinning for judging me on this matter????

If it were that important to the Heavenly father for me to not do this, he would tell me so, not someone online I have never met before.

God's Blessings to you and yours.

It's in 1 Nowhere-onicles 6:66.

"Thou shall not wear pants otherwise thou shall offend the Lord thy God."

Wow! Amazing that people can get so 'out-there'. How on earth they come to the conclusion that wearing pants is a sin is beyond me.
Women especially seem susceptible to being deceived, and lead astray by false teachings (i.e. garden of Eden). It is sad really.

Not all Catholics are like that, I assure you. I am Catholic and wholeheartedly agree with you. I seriously doubt that we are damned at the judgement because of the garments we wore.

I was thinking... I've been through similar journeys like this, esp. when first finding an online community of more conservative Christians. It could be that this is helping to prepare you for a future strong conviction of your own, that goes against the "flow". It really shows you how important it is to be gentle in how you express those convictions. I know I'm a lot more aware of the way God chooses to work in lives after being at the end of very harsh words and Scripture "attacks". The truth yes, but IN LOVE. :)

Ok, I am Catholic and there are very few Catholic woman that I know that wear dresses all the time. I think that it is a choice. I realilze that there are places in scriptures that talk about wearing a dress.
but do you honestly think that the Lord would have given us the knowledge to make pants if he did not want us to wear them? In biblical times, many of the men wore dresses, do people think that men need to go around wearing dresses? Adam and Eve wore nothing then they found fig leavs. Do you think it would not start a revolt if people were to be told to wear fig leaves again .My grandmother who is 90 wears pants and she has been Catholic all her life.
South Dakota wnters @25 below zero and a wind chill warrents pants. I think that it is a personal choice and my choice is jeans and comfort and yes that may be a dress or skirt now and again. I agree with you!
Take care

I'm finding it interesting watching this converstation.

I do not want to make and enemy out of anyone but a few of the arguments are a bit thin. In Bliblical times men did not wear skirts because they did not "know how" to make pants. I mean, pants are pretty simple. Native Americans called them 'leggins'.

And the thought that God wouldn't have let us have the knowledge to make pants if we wern't supposed to wear them is particularly shaky. We have knowledge for a lot of things. Bad things. I'm sure you can think of a few! Doesn't mean that the knowledge to make that bad thing is God-given. Our imaginations are all evil.

Just a few cents worth from someone who wears (mostly) skirts and (sometimes) pants. :)

Hi Amy Jo,
First, I want to let you know that I think you are on the defense about this matter and you seem to be blowing off a lot of steam. Do not let anyone put you in such a position, it is between you and God.Do not let it cause you to be angry or harsh. I see another trying to encourage modest dress, but I don't think it is being shoved down any throats. It is something that a bloger has shared about her convictions. I have seen everyone here post about their convictions. Wheather it is to cook healthy, sew for their family, make soap for them, educate theirself, spend more time with their children, lose weight, etc........those are all convictions. If someone is posting a conviction that you or I disagree with, then we can move on. We should not try to tell someone how to post or what to post. This would not be a very interesting blog if all post were cookie cutter post.Plus, it will appear that we are judging too.
I have seen others here who go around as if they were the moderator trying to shut down certain post just because they disagree, or come back with an ugly rebound post.
Don't let another's post upset you, it takes all kinds to make the blog go round.
As for wearing pants, I have read the Bible more than once and I see nothing about wearing only dresses or skirts. The word pertaining to a dress or skirt is not even in the Bible. For those who have found it, PLEASE show it to me. If it is in the Bible then I will always wear a dress.
The Bible does tell us to dressMODESTLY and in womens clothing. If you are dressing modestly that is pleasing to God. If you are wearing pants that are not making you look like a man and are modest, I see no problem.I say that if you are walking up from a distance and someone can not tell if you are a woman or man, then you might want to change your wardrobe a bit. God tells us to wear modest clothing made for a woman.
I think that the ladies who are wearing only dresses are wearing clothing that is not made for a man, in our country. There is no mistake about it, they are not wearing mans clothing. For many, things are black or white, hot or cold, womens clothing only. God tells that he wants us to be on fire or ice cold. No inbetween for me. I will wear only womens clothing and be modest. If a woman wears pants, it is up to her to make sure that she is dressed in womans clothing and modestly.God does comand us women to wear only womens clothing and to dress modestly, you make the choice for yourself. For example, if I were to wear jeans I would make sure that they were feminine and modest. I wear cotton pants with flowers or feminine design that a man would never wear. Also they are very modest.
Being bossy or defensive about this matter is an ugly thing to see and it is not pleasing to God. I do not read Gods mind on this matter, I read the Bible. It amazes me to hear women say that God understands and it is okay, if they do not follow his way.No one can read God's mind. If you feel that someone is judging you, let it go, put it in Gods hands.

Oh, and just so you know (you obviously found out by now) that certain women here on HSB think it is their job to tell other women what God wants them to do. They like to take the place of the Holy Spirit.....don't listen to them.
Keep your eyes, ears, and heart focused on God and your Bible. If someone is making you feel bad about yourself, then that is not from God. They will have to stand before God an answer for it too.
Only the Holy Spirit convicts, and only God can tell you what is right for you....not some strange women!
It is useless to try and argue with some of these ladies, don't waste your time.

Friday, February 22, 2008 - Above all is LOVE

The writen word is difficult to descipher sometimes because we do not have the facial expressions and the tone of the voice to lead as to how a person meant a particular statement. A raised eyebrow would help us know that it was meant as a joke, a sharp down-turn of the voice at the end of a statement and you know that this person "means business". Our past also changes how we recieve what someone else says. Someone who was raised in a strick environment is more likely to second guess even the most innocent of comments and someone who has been spoiled all there life may say hurtful things and think nothing of it. (Not making refferance to either woman involved in this . . . . . . as one of these people or the other.)

The point I would like to make is that as Christian we need to do our best to be OUR best. On the final day we will be accountable for our own choices. that does not mean that we should never offer advice to those we see "walking astray". At the same time we are not called to drag them kicking and screaming back onto our path. The Good Shepherd may have called them to walk along a different path. God gave us the ability to make choices for ourselves. We must respect others' choices even if we do not agree with it.

So, if we have help to offer let us do it in love for Christ called us to love our neighbor, love our brothers (and sisters) for "the greatest of these is love". Let us also receive these offers in love. (That does not mean we have to follow the advice. Take it graciously and use what works for you.) The "Dress Code" is a grey area that is not specificly addressed in the Bible one way or the other. The devil uses petty disagreement such as this to devide the body of Christ. Let us not allow him to use us. Rise above it and honor the Lord in ALL we say and do.

In much love and respect. I am sure both of you ladies love, fear, serve, and honor the Lord our God.

Blessings!

Monday, February 25, 2008 - What are you trying to prove?

Posted by Anonymous
Really? What are you trying to prove by quoting another person's blog and ripping her to smithereens! Who do you think you are? Just because you have a difference of opinions, doesn't give you the right to cut her up and chew her out. This is not what God wants us to do, if you read the Bible or had an ounce of faith you would know better. You should apologize for taking it the wrong way. What I read, is that this woman wants to please God and show respect. She didn't shove anything down her throat. She didn't even ask you to come and read her blog. I am writing this anonymously because I do not want you visiting my website and chewing me up like you did to her. I thought homesteadblogger.com was there for us women to share our thoughts with other women. The fight between women continues... can we not learn to respect each other? So what if I prefer to crochet and you prefer sewing, or quilting etc. All people are different and have different thoughts or feelings. Why do you think that there are so many different religions? types of schools? different styles of clothes for that matter? So what if I don't like scrapbooking and think that it is a dumb hobby? are you going to come after me??? You always end your blog entries with God's blessings. Are you blessing others by slamming them? Think before you write. Please.
