What Des a Woman of God Look Like???

Of course upon reading this question above, the first thing that comes to mind is the Proverbs 31 woman and then the verses in Titus that also talk about how a woman or wife should act inside and outside the home.

But what does a real woman of God look like???

Does she have long hair in a bun with a head covering, or is my hair ok with God??? (I have shorter hair, straightened by the grace of a straightening iron, and it has highlights adn lowlights.......gettting my hair done every 6 weeks is my luxury right now.)

Perhaps she wears different clothing than others??? A Godly woman could wear a skirt or dress covering herself down to the ground, or a pair of dress pants or jeans.  She might be seen in a pair of shorts, or a swimming suit that does not cover her thighs.  Could she be wearing a bikini???  A polka dotted bikini???

Does she eat the same things you and I do??? Does she eat meat, eggs adn fish??? Does she eat only Biblical foods, or does she eat from the white sins (A Seventh Day Adventest told me once that there were 3 white sins: white flour, white sugar, and I can't remember...LOL), or eat of shrimp and other sea creatures the Bible tells not to eat?

Does she walk like the other humans or does she hold her head an inch higher than ther others, knowing she is better than the rest.  Better than the norm.

Is she full of Joy, Peace, Laughter, Love and Forgiveness???  Or is she full of convictions for others, judgment for all, laughter only when it contains gossip, and forgetfulness for her responsibilities instead of forgiveness?

Unfortunately, some here in blog world, and some out there in the real world think there is a cookie cutter shape to cut out of a Woman of God.    Evidentially some think that you MUST homeschool, and you MUST wear skirts and dresses, wear your hair long and you MUST have your heads covered.

As someone commented on my earlier blog, I don't think God will great us at the pearly gates saying, why did you wear jeans??? His concern is not the length of your hair or the foods you eat.  No His concerns are not the makeup or no makeup or whether we have our toes showing in church (I had a teacher who didn't want any students wearing sandasls to school because it was disruptive to other students.  The truth was he had an icky foot fetish.  He thinks feet are gross. LOL).  His concerns deal with the heart.  His concerns deal with witnessing to His children, spreading the word, being a good deciple, letting the world know Who He is and What he stood for.

Judging someone else by what they wear, telling them they sin for not wearing skirts or dresses kinda reminds me of Hitler.  Blonde hair and Blue eyes go to jail.  Why??? Because you are called Jewish.  Why?  Because Hitler was a judgmental man who NEEDED JESUS!!!

I am not the cookie cutter version of a Woman of God.  But I am one none the less.  I am a Child of God.  I wear blue jeans and color my hair!  *SHOCK*  I wear flipflops and show off my toes and ankles too!!!  *the horror of it*  I have never wore a headcovering in my life (Okay, that's a lie.  I have a picture of me with a big doiley on my head when I was small....does that count?)  I have "plaited my hair adn adorned it with jewels" MANY TIMES!  You know what plaiting is don't you??? Braiding!!!  Back in the 80's (showing my age huh) it was actually popular!  LOL  And I eat shrimp and hooves animals too!  I love my meat! LOL

Let us not judge one another as we would NOT want them to judge us.  I love wearing skirts and feeling pretty adn don't condemn those of you who wear them full time either.  But I love me a pair of worn in pair of comfy soft blue jeans.  The ones with holes in the knees are the best aren't they???  I have been known to wear a pair of my favorite wing tipped Doc Martins out and when I was in middle school (again, those darn 80's) the rage here was to wear your father's dress shirts and dress ties with blue jeans!  I did that many times (with long curly hair .....dont' worry you could still tell I was a woman.)

I think all of the verses in the Bible are correct for their time.  This is 2008, and I think God understands better than we think the reasons we wear different clothing and eat different foods.  Those verses were mostly from the OLD testament Law chapters anyway.  We have since been delivered from the law.

Anyway........my soapbox is going away for good on this subject now.  I just realized after reading some comments on the last blog of mine about blue jeans that I had more to say.

As my friend would say, Why can't we all just love each other and GET ALONG!!!!

I love everyone here.....skirt wearing, blue jean wearing, making your own yogurt and soap children of God!!!  Homeschooling, goat raising, making your own period pads (ok....that one is still a little weird for me.  I love ya, but I just aint gonna join ya ok?? ), furniture polish making mothers and wives.  I love ya all.......thanks for accepting me for who I am!!!

God's Blessings,

Amy Jo

You have asked some very good questions and there are some very good answers to them in the Bible. Are you really wanting answers or are you writing in sarcasim? I can not tell what you are thinking only God can do that. I have before, pointed out the answers to one who asked , but they did not really want answers. In fact...... the truth made them angry. They were being sarcastic and only wanted to debate on the matter. I will not do that.
If you are being judged by someone hear then they too will be judged. Don't let it get to you or let it cause you to return the judging. We do not know what one thinks, only God does.If we say someone thinks they are better or acts like they are better, then we are judging. If you want to post on this matter then you should post, it is your blog and no one should discourage your post.
It is important to know that we are our brothers keeper. We are to encourage one another on in living a Christ filled life.If we encourage a woman to go shopping in a bikini are we encouraging another to be more like Christ? If you feel that it is okay to wear a bikini, that is between you, God, and any man that may have lusted after you because of your lack of clothing. When we dress in a lustful way then we will cause men to lust, this is the reason for modest dress.

Colossians 3:5-6
"Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:Sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, wich is idolatry.Because of these things the wrath of God is coming."
For answers to your questions this may help you.
If you are really wanting answers, I will be happy to pm them to you or I may post from the Bible about modesty.

My daughter Belle makes and sells menstrual pads, it is quite a good income for her.She also makes her own clothing. Some women think of it as dirty, gross, nasty,etc.....like your teacher and the toe issue.Personally, I know that using the disposable pads are gross. They do smell a place up and are left in places for men to have to deal with, like garbage men or janitors. It is rude to leave those smelly things behind for another to have to deal with. The smell makes me ill. For the women who chose to wash and reuse cloth, I am thankful for it.For the women who wash and reuse their underwear the cloth pads are no different. Also It means a cleaner world when we stop filling landfills with menstrual pads or other disposables. We are living in a throw away world and that is strange. It is okay to have your own ideas and reasons for not doing something or doing it. We all can not deal with our menstruation in the same manner. I have been through menopause so I no longer have one to deal with.
I wonder why you even mention the pad?Do you judge others?
I have judged a person before and I have asked God to forgive me.I met a woman who works as a nude dancer, totally nude. I judged that she was trying to get men to look at her. I was wrong to judge her and I was wrong not sharing with her what the Bible says about modesty and lust. Lust is a sin.Would you have given her any advice about modesty or how she was causing men to lust?

Whew--you did hit a hot topic. I agree with you on the point that none of us should judge, but a christian should produce fruit. I have also learned that we cannot put God in a box because He is just way too big for that.
I do wear skirts mostly because this is what my husband wishes. We also homeschool because we felt a clear leading from God to do this. Do I think everyone should do this? I don't know, I have a hard enough time trying to keep myself straight, and I don't have time to judge others.
I do believe that as christians we need to be different than the world. How your family does this should be prayerfully considered. Then again everything we do should be prayerfully considered so this should just be an extension of everything else.
Modesty is the key here, and where our hearts are on this issue. I could be wearing my skirt and wanting to draw attention and be guilty. Do I want to draw the attention of the gentleman across the room? How I play with my hair, move my hips, look at him, etc has a lot to do with this as well. We should act modest as well as dress this way.
Anyway, I hope this makes sense. I am not trying to judge anyone here. I wear pants when it will be more modest to do so. I always ask my husband before we go somewhere, that may be difficult to wear a skirt to, what he wants me to wear. I do not want to cause my brother to stumble.
